For anybody who has any leather, canvas, sailcloth or modern synthetic heavy duty materials and items the speedy stitcher is a really useful little tool. Speedy Stitcher Sewing Awl
Costs less than £20 and you can find them in quite a few online retailers. I have had one for years and used it to make cartridge carriers, leather sleeves to cover turnbuckles on my boat, and just used it to repair my Roe Sack where the stitching failed on one of the straps. I have used to re-stich sail covers on my boat - an 8 foot long join. Did take very long - about an hour sitting in the sun, whereas taking it away to be fixed would have easily cost me an hour in time just driving it to repair place.
OK its not as fast as a big heavy weight sewing machine, nor possibly as strong as the traditional double stitching with two needles and a leather sailpalm, but this does need good skills.
