The issue is the vet took away all that she could leaving enough to stitch his leg back together but now the wound is struggling to heal as it’s possible there’s remaining tumour and due to the position the stitches haven’t held up.

Greatful for any advice

Oh. It’s a bugger of a place to remove anything due to the lack of spare skin so the wound breakdown may be due to tension rather than recurrence. Looking at the wound now from the initial mass, it’s a fair result, that area will heal up nicely. Manukau (genuine) does seem to help. Good luck

How often do you apply it and do you put it on thickly or just a thin coating

Generously apply in/under a loose weave bandage and obviously with a bucket over his head to prevent licking.
Get certified MH,there are many fakes especially from the orient.

If you can get a thin coat onto it once a day for a week or 10 days I bet it'll help. When you amputate cattle toes you can never get skin closure by suturing, so we just put lots of manuka over it, under a bandage, and it really speeds up healing. Works great for enucleations too, we remove the eyeball and fill the hole up with honey! This is a favourite brand...

Get the best (most expensive) honey you can, don’t be tempted by the cheap offerings on the supermarket shelf just because they call themselves manuka, Holland and Barrett or some of the more highly concentrated ones are what you want, they really do work well.

(It’ll still be cheaper than another trip to the vets, but as said above keep some back in case it clears up quickly, you then have some of the best natural cough mixture going if you ever get a sore throat!

That’s a nice healthy wound bed there, the red colour is a very good sign. The wound edge is rolled a wee bit but it’s ok. If you can’t get Manuka honey, just clean it with saline twice a day, a wee bit of bethadine if you have it. Just try to keep it dry. That’ll heel grand.

He had a reasonable size collar but defeated that so he’s got a dish the size of an arctic radio station

Thanks all for contributing 👍
If he’s an escape artist with his cone, consider getting him a muzzle - he won’t like it, but if he rips through a nice 90% healed wound it’ll be back to square 1 and the vets again. I had to do just that with my Golden Retriever.

You werent kidding

Holland & Barett 830 Manuka £69.99 - which is about 5 minutes in my vets :-|

Many thanks for all the comments, greatly appreciated
