I might have spelt it wrong but I've just met a guy with an 8 month old Spinoli???
Like a GWP but a lot bigger , a belting looking hound with a lovely temperament he's just shy of 40 kilos , a monster of a dog

Just interested , anyone know much about them ???

Don’t live long. Prone to joint problems. Don’t seem to have much drive. Know a few

What a shame , I gather too much wrong breeding ???

The bugger looked like it could tackle a bear ,

What a shame, I gather they have been bred too big, n there joints can't handle the weight ,

Looks like a GWP strain/ genes ????

What breeds did they originate from ??and for what purpose

They were obviously bred for a reason, to tackle big game ???
As said just curios

I’ve seen a few but never one I’d want to bring home, low drive, sloowww and boring to watch.
Strictly for appearances, if you want a working dog look elsewhere.

My neighbour breeds them, and works them on her son's game shoots. Lovely dogs, as far as I know no issues with having short life span.

Great dog but saliva on draught!

Worked in a house that had 2 of these, they were fed in the kitchen, with in minutes it looked like a scene from ghost busters, ectoplasm hanging from the ceiling ,cupboards and light fittings. Probably a nice dog if you like to clean a lot

Seen a couple working grouse, too ploddy for my eye, would take all day to do what a GSP or GWP would have covered in a couple of hours with the same results.
As a stalking mate i could see the benefits of this trate i suppose though.

This, they’re slow and tend to potter about with their noses on the ground, as does the Bracco.
If that’s what you want, knock yourself out, but as HPR’s they bore the pants off me.

Typical dog breed thread that will receive a wide variety of answers based on minimal experience (including my own) - far better to talk to a number of breeders who have owned a number of examples of the breed over a number of years.

The one that lives in our village is a huge male, plenty of poke, has been known to chase a few deer over the horizon.

Friends have one. Huge beast. All of the traits described above hold true.

One seemingly odd characteristic: very efficient digestion [on right diet] means my friend's Spinone produces output of less volume than some budgies.
