The thoughts about a BASC head measuring service, based on feedback from members at shows, started being talked about in earnest in 2008.

There is nothing that I know of that’s wrong with the current systems. But those who know more about measuring will be in a better position to say if there are any issues that need to be addressed.

It’s quite normal to find alternatives springing up to meet demand in the market, and normal for alternatives to benchmark against the existing successful products or services.

However, the new alternatives will usually offer something different from the existing product or service. Maybe an additional feature or benefit, and/or maybe a price point advantage.

The BASC head measuring service intends to deliver on all these points

Hi I just wanted to get back to willies original post where most magazines seem to have this "quirk" about patting it's contributors on the back and then awarding them.

I thought about this and would like to put forward a new award for "openness and contributions relevant to gaining rewards..."

That's a load of crap. He stalks Hampshire, myself and 2 friends have plenty of ground in that county and he is the last person any of us would call.
I can promise you now he will never shoot on my patch even if he offered over the odds.

Do BASC measure park animals?
I know that CIC is only meant to be purely wild animals, although I couldn't help notice that the Gold Norfolk Fallow Buck was a recent park escapee, as per the write up on here, but it was included in the ST review last year, as were one or two other animals presented by dubious people.

I feel it is important that stalkers have a viable alternative if they want a trophy measured. If like me you shoot a few medals over the years and like them measured you need some were to go. If that place bans you for questioning them with faults of there making .Then surely this also needs to be addressed and the only way to address it is have a choice and as long as they all meet the same standards whats the problem. CIC UK Were rouge at one time and could not give out the official medals.

Personally I cannot see why we need another measuring system What do we have at present ? CIC, Rowland Wards (which I believe has been around the longest) SCI, Boone and Crocket, possibly a few more but they escape me at the moment. I for one would use an established system such as CIC or SCI.

As for David from BASC asking what might be the criteria that makes the stalker of the year. Well for me it certainly does not mean having the finance to just order or have someone look for trophy heads to therefore for fill an ego and have another report written about visiting a site and shooting a deer. I would suggest that the criteria should include someone who has offered help and free stalking to his fellow stalkers who are novices, disabled or cannot afford to get into the sport. Raising funds for worthy causes such H4H using their own ground and deer. Someone who is passionate about their sport, lifestyle and gives their valuable time freely, willingly and without being friends with a shooting magazine.

I therefore propose that you look at some of the distinguished members who are listed on this site, to me many if not all deserve to be called Stalker of the year.

Perhaps the Stalking Directory site should start awarding fancy awards and names But then the membership is slight more modest
