A question for those in the know.............

My GWP has picked up a few ticks of late even although it has been religiously treated with Spot - On for fleas and Ticks.

How exactly does this treatment work?

Is it a case that it acts as a repellant or does it kill them on contact?

It dosn't appear to be very effective in any case !!!!

Any advice information or opinions well received.

It definately does not stop them jumping aboard and it generally does not stop them biting either, but it does kill them once the have had a nibble.

I have found that only "Frontline" Spot On is any use the others out there just don't seem to e any use.

never use frontline myself, only mix hobson and dorall horse garlic powder into their food starting in may through to oct, nothing likes the taste of them then, and its not too offensive to the human nose either, works a treat, 5kg tub lasts all 20 of my dogs through the summer

It's a permethrin which damages the insect nervous system causing paralysis and death. However I don't thikn anyone knows why it can be a repellent as Advantix seems to be. Not sure why yours hasn't worked, but as has been said on other posts most vets have a healthy distrust of non vet remedies because many just don't work.
