Stalking at Grizedale

Hi, does anyone remember stalking with me at Grizedale in the late 80's early 90's ?
I'm Jonathan Cox and worked with John Cubby. It would be interesting to know if anyone remembers.

Hi,

Never stalked at Grizedale but always wanted too - just couldn't get the time or the money together! However, I may have met you at Crufts one year if you did the BASC gamekeepers. My first wirehair came out of a bitch from the Grizewyre kennel so that may be a connection.

Welcome to the forum, don't forget to do you introduction post.

Cheers

Siggy.

Hi,

It would have been Norman Healy who you met at Crufts. I left Grizedale just prior to Norman starting there.
I was the first Ranger to have GWP's at Grizedale and have had them since 1987. I have three at the moment and still stalk having roe, red and sika ground.

GWP Stalking

Should’ve had a job with F.C. there in late 90’s but buggered the interview, that and they wanted someone with a degree in bunny hugging.
House included too. Still wonder what could’ve been if I only interview better.

GWP Stalking

Just got back from stalking muntjac with my 3 year GWP, she's a bit excitable but did really well as there were CWD all over the place which we can't shoot. When we finally caught up with a muntjac she sat really well as I had to keep switching position as the buck moved through the scrub before I finally got a clear shot. But I can only imagine what it was like stalking in a forest as large as Grizedale with a GWP....Like Teyhan1 I wanted to have FC job, but he did better than me - I never got an interview!

I'm Jonathan Cox and worked with John Cubby. It would be interesting to know if anyone remembers.
John Cubby MBE and Jonathan Cox were a prominent duo in the British deer stalking and wildlife management community, closely associated with their work in Grizedale Forest, Cumbria. Working together during the late 1980s and early 1990s, they became widely recognized for their expert contributions to environmental conservation and forestry practices. [1, 2]

Their Partnership and Work
  • Grizedale Forest: John Cubby served as the Forestry Commission’s Chief Wildlife Officer in the 7,000-acre Grizedale Forest, dedicating 35 years of his life to the area until his retirement in 2003. Jonathan Cox worked closely alongside Cubby as a professional colleague and deer stalker. [1, 2, 3]
  • Television Appearances: The pair frequently collaborated on educational broadcasting, co-starring in several television programs about British wildlife and land management. They lightheartedly referred to these features as the "Cubby & Cox shows." [1]
  • Deer Management: They mentored generations of rangers, stalkers, and students in humane, ecological deer culling, establishing a world-renowned standard for British deer control. [, 2]
