Stalking Show butchery competition

Should be the "chains".
So tiny on a muntjac they were virtually impossible to separate off in one identifiable piece.
I think I just picked two likely looking bits out of the scraps pile, trimmed them up and hoped for the best!
So it’s the dangly side bit on the tenderloin?

I have learned something. I had no idea that had a name!

I didn’t manage to make the top 5, but it was still a great experience and I’ll definitely try and give it another go next year.

Glad I wasn’t the only one with almost non- existent chains to remove from the tenderloins.

Well done to the top 5, cracking effort from all involved, Lincolnshire Game provided top notch saddles and the Stalking Show team organised a brilliant show.

Roll on 2026!

Yes, I did!
I was reasonably hopeful of getting into the top 5, but I was genuinely staggered when I heard that I'd won 1st prize!
I struggled a bit initially as the boning knife I'd been given was blunt, so I had to nip off backstage and borrow a steel to touch it up. I think a few other competitors were glad to make use of it too!

Last year I seem to recall that 1st, 2nd & 3rd places were all SD members (I was 3rd), and I was wondering if we'd managed something similar between us again this year?
Congratulations and well done mate

The contestant to my right of Tim. Was sharpening his knifes with a steel . Over the meat he was preparing 🤦🤷
Over 30 years butchering and this was never a H&S issue, i understand why it should be done but it just shows what dangers we face these days that we didn't have years back.
