Stalking smock/jacket that keeps bum dry

Excellent - thank you.

Does anyone have first hand experience of these in Scottish conditions?

Aye, sweat suits, OK if you walk to where you want to go with it in your bag then put it on, but, wear it when walking will leave you wet with condensation, can't fault their waterproofness but I'd not have a Ridgeline again, the only thing I've had as bad was a County Covers/Fortis smock, **** product and equally **** service and people to deal with.

Got a Tahr great jacket, not 100% waterproof, and the lack of pockets lets it down, Stony creek long bush coat is 100% waterproof more pockets better jacket all round, but you’ll have to order from NZ, no agents in the uk, there is a rep in the uk, but about as much use as tits on a bull.

Is the Stoney creek as breathable as the Swazi?
I like the look of some of their stuff but I'm worried that they'll be sweat suits like Ridgeline or County Covers/Fortis.

It’s better than Ridgeline that stuff is toilet, that is one thing the Tahr is good for when your walking etc, the Stoney creek is definitely warmer, but not sweaty like Ridgeline etc.

Cheers, good to know, looks good, well thought out gear and sensible money.

Nomad all the way.

I have just got back from a stalking trip in Northumberland. Atrocious weather and my nomad smock kept me warm and dry. The back is long enough to sit on and keep you dry even on the wettest of ground. Thank got it does because the Artkis trousers I was wearing were like a sponge.

Which one do you have?

Ridgeline smock nothing get's through it but would agree with Dawnrazor you end up soaking with sweat!
Bought mine when they first came out and someone told me the new one's are breathable!? Don't know whether this is right or not?
I have 3/4 jackets I use for stalking but I do revert back to the ridgeline a lot because it's so easy and comfortable despite the downsides
The site bradleyhardacre posted the link for has deerhunter smocks at cheap money.I've had a few pair of their trousers and they've been great but not tried any of there jackets

I have a Rigdeline, no way would I buy another, totally agree with what's been said. Total sweat suits no breathability whatsoever. If it's freezing cold you'll be ok.
I have to admit I have an Arktis/Country covers Denison as well but that's no better from the sweat perspective. That's why I'm following this thread!

I had a Country Covers smock, it was a sweat suit that leaked, quite and achievement!!!!!
Nearly 2 years to get my money back, had to get trading standards and a solicitor involved and threaten them with court action, terrible people to deal with, I'd buy another Ridgeline before I'd get anything from Fortis.

Have to say i’ve always thought the Fortis ones looked like slightly tarted up and wildly over priced issue smocks. I have a perfectly serviceable MTP jacket for warmer drier conditions, and really like it.

My current jacket is a now quite aged Harkila Pro Hunter, and I really can’t fault it but for the wet bum. It does also soak up a fair bit after a while, and putting it on the day after a very wet outing can be a bit unappealing until you warm up.

|Always fancied the country covers gear, until ordered something for my wife at one of fairs that they didn't have in stock!
if only i'd had a crystal ball  they were shocking!! took 12 months from paying for it to getting item and no apology

I think jackets are quite subjective, just like rifle make/calibre, 4x4 make etc, 1 man claims its the best thing ever while the next will slate it.

Must admit i wouldn't be paying the money some of u do, even as i work outdoors full time, usually just go with ur bog standard flexothene like many farmers/keepers for working waterproofs

I've a couple of berghaus jackets which are pretty good, but i prefer layers and ightwieght jackets rather than a heavy jacket. Also not a fan of smocks for the same reason. My old berg must be 10 yrs old now and still pretty good
In really severe weather not much is truely 100% waterproof and breathable

If it was me i'd just sew/stick a patch into wot ever jacket u buy and adapt it to suit ur needs, bit of old jacket or waterproof trousers.
Go for a cheapy ex army with a patch and see how it goes
Mibee different if caught out on the open hill, but do u really need a jacket that is super duper waterproof? If it is that wet u'll most likely be sitting with feet up at fire with a dram

Much like everyone else I’ve got the obligatory ridgeline sweat tent.. I’ve just bought a laksen smock for a belting deal and will be trying it this week so will give some feedback
