Stalking smock/jacket that keeps bum dry

Sorry I thought you'd found a Swazi Tahr for £169. Is Fortis the same guy who used to be country covers?
Yes, now run by the next generation. Ollie and co.
Have a couple of bits from Fortis including the SAS smock which is fantastic, great people to deal with.
Based only a couple of miles from me and always welcome you with coffee and a chat.

I have an older pair of fortis trousers great light weight but wee bit on noisy side for stalking when I’m forest rides and no wind ...
I’d like to see smock first hand before I purchased see if it would be same..... great price tho

To be fair to Ollie (Fortis), over the last couple of years, they have been hitting the game fairs hard, and regularly show up in Scotland, so shouldn't be difficult to see in person.

No that’s very true .... gamefaor where I bought the trousers ....
Wether I’m home or not is what dictates wether I make it to there.
I’m sure it wouldn’t be too difficult to check it out ....

I’m currently using a Swazi Nahhani smock and it’s brilliant ...I treat it also with Diverdave Repel & wore it on hill to the stags and was brilliant ......

I’m impressed with their stuff .... must admit tho I’m migrating my thinking more towards full length zip jacket as far easier to open it up if in hike mode and allow sweat to evaporate out better .

I hear you Paul...... my Fortis SAS smock has side zips from pit to base hem and is great for not overheating en route to your location. :thumb:

I use a Rivers West wildfowling jacket for stalking. It’s quite short, but has a tail section at the back supposedly to sit on, however, it’s a bit short.
If I’m going to a high seat i take one of these self inflating seat cushions. Elasticated belt to fasten round your waist whilst walking.
Nice when you climb into a seat in the dark and it’s wet and covered in bird poop.
It still self inflates after 7+ years use.
Ken.

Wet bum not high seat related (though that is a consideration). I’m fed up of getting a wet bum after sitting for lunch, or to glass an area, or to wait for something to come out etc etc.

If you're not up for paying Swazi money and/or the potential faff of importing, have a look at the Shooterking smock.
I have one, and I'm very impressed with it. Look hard and it's possible to see where money has been saved in manufacturing, but overall it's great. Really durable, good breathability, and of course waterproof!
I wore mine for several days beating last season and it stood up to brambles, barbed wire and the best of Welsh border weather.

The Seeland Keeper Jacket (I think) and the Jack Pike shooting jacket have a game keepers pocket on the back that unzips completely to give you a sitting on flap. I have a Percussion Wastcoat that does the same.

Simpler option is a large freezer bag or two in your pocket along with gloves etc. Multiple uses. Or Carry your lunch in a large freezer bag.

Having had Lymes, I am terrified of ticks and the easiest way to get them is sitting on grass and heather. Out of preference I always try and find a rock, log, tree stump etc to sit on if I can.

How do you find the Percussion waistcoat? Is it well made? Whats the quality like? I'm thinking of buying a Percussion shooting jacket... what do you think? Is it a good idea or not?

The trouble with unzipping the game pouch is that you collect water on the inside of the pouch - ie. when you zip it back up, you often end up with seepage right over the kidneys. I tried this for a bit, and it works ok if the ground is only mildly damp, but properly soaked, and it makes things rapidly worse.

I like it - I paid £30 for it on the sale rack. I use it in the summer time and good for carrying bits and pieces - mine has a large game pocket at the back, and great for carrying dog leads, dummy's etc. You can also carry a box of shotgun cartridges in the pockets, and it has loops for rifle cartridges as well.

I’m going to need a new stalking jacket fairly soon as the old o e starts to fall apart.

I’d really like something that is long enough that I don’t get a wet bum when I sit down.

What would people recommend? Is the Swazi Tahr half as good as the marketing makes out?

Is this of any interest?... various sizes available
