Steyr Zephyr ii

I'm looking at another 22LR for field and target and as I have an Anschutz and the new CZ 457 (for target and bench) already in 22 I was looking for something different and spotted a couple of these for sale. I watched some clips on you toob which were positive but wanted to see if anyone on here has any first hand experience with one?

I was bantering about getting one of these when they became available but then Tikka announced the T1X and I went with that. No regrets.~Muir

I was considering a Tikka, but the Steyr has some great reviews and killer looks. Just want to know how well it handles and cycles etc, but being a Steyr I'm guessing it'll be impressive?

A friend thirty years ago had a Steyr Zephyr in .22LR. The one that is a small bore stocked to the muzzle in schutzen style. It was very accurate and best accuracy he got was with RWS in the blue packet. Which were hollow point subsonic I think? He used them even though of course he didn't use a moderator.

I have never handled the Streyr but I own two T1X in 22LR. One set for competition long range shooting with a wide foreend and vertical handgrip and one left stock for hunting. wither After your post I went to some reviews of the Zephyr. The shooters seemed to have a rough bolt lift and accuracy was just OK. In fairness, I went to some reviews of the T1X. One fellow in NZ hated it. SaId that 1.5" groups at 50M was the best he could do, which is 3 MOA. This prompted me to raise the BS flag because Tikka guarantees 1 MOA so why didn't he return it?? The next review mirrored my own observations with the T1X. Basically, it shoots as well as the operator with god ammo. Hard to know who to believe except the 2nd review did shot the man shooting the rifle. The first was a 'Bench Bitch" session with no field shooting. I have contact with three T1X -two of mine ansd one of a friend- and all shoot quarter-inch at 50M with good ammo and a steady follow through.

My 455 which had a 16" sporter barrel shot the size of a third of a 5p piece when benched. My Anschutz 1813 Supermatch a bit better. I now have the 457 MTR and **** it for the first time last weekend, I wasn't impressed as that guarantees a 15mm group @ 50m.

At best it shot a super tight group of 3 and another 2 through the same hole out of the 5. I put it down to possible scope issues but I looked it over only yesterday as I wanted to lighten the trigger weight pull and the action bolts where only finger tight!

I'm guessing that may of been the issue so I'm back to the range tomorrow.
Getting back to the Steyr I'm sure the claim that the factory makes should be pretty spot on as when I had their sub 12's, they were bliss.

I’ve got a zephyr in hmr which I got last year, beautiful gun, as accurate as anything. The bad points are the safety and trigger which feel cheap, more so the safety. Still my go to gun over the cz455 in 22.

Another nice thing about the T1X is the trigger. Adjustable and wonderful, straight from the box.
