Storm Eowyn

I don't know what like in England but here in NI currently it's brutal my property has already been damaged, I'm just waiting for one of my sheds to get ripped apart, I've never seen winds like this. It genuinely is very dangerous out there.
Stay safe. There was a report on the TV a few hours ago that a gust of 114 MPH had been recorded in Eire after which the anemometer self destructed. I am 30 miles North of Aberdeen, still relatively quiet here as we have a decent hill behind us giving some shelter but well aware it's on the way.

Pretty wild here but I’m still going fowling tonight. Will be rocket ships or so slow can get them with a net.

I think it’s a bad storm certainly a few notches up on the last ones and it’s only amber gere. Some of the very large trees outside my house are swaying a lot 🤞 might end up with a loft conversion 😂

No real problems here, mobile phone signal is gone but the interweb is still chugging away.
I’ll poke my nose out shortly and self assess whether or not the dogs get a walk.
All those weather warnings are advice, not law, so it’s up to you to make your own decisions.
I’ll bet that there are just as many heart attacks, strokes and babies born today as there were yesterday and will happen tomorrow.
Not everyone has the luxury of hunkering down.

Just walked the dogs and it’s pretty ferocious
Teckel’s not amused .
Bloody rain was like being sand blasted
I anticipate some serious damage around here today

Worst thing was my beating was cancelled !!! That’s two days off this week , definitely not amused at that !

I honestly wonder about the competence of some of the people that make up these rules….

There are wind limits on opening aircraft doors and deploying stairs or jetways. There may also be a lack of staff to escort the passengers into the terminal and deal with them once they’re there, immigration, security, all that routine nonsense that makes airports such a pleasure nowadays.
Then theres aircraft wind limitations for actually getting airborne again as well as needing to get the runway checked for debris and confirming that the necessary aids are operational and the required positions are appropriately manned.
Its not as simple as checking the wind.

Blowing a bit here at the moment! Trees down and a few of the roads blocked, just about got blown off my feet going out for a walk!
Friends from the Netherlands were due to fly in to Edinburgh earlier today, but after a couple of tries, the pilot pulled the plug and eventually went back to Dusseldorf - apparently lots of sick bags were the order of the day!🤢🤮
Power has also been down a couple of times......

Its currently doing 75mph plus on the Forth Road Bridges. I can’t help feeling that advice to just stay put is probably correct.

Trees, powerlines will be down across roads. Schools will be without power etc.

It doesn’t take long or much man power to remove a tree or put back up a power line. This can be done quickly when the winds die off.

It takes a lot of manpower and time to remove the casualties and the cars that have crashed into the tree, and a lot more to remove all the other trees to get the ambulances to the casualties.

So another wee spell of bad weather is due, and the entire country goes into meltdown. Schools closed all over Angus and Dundee, red warnings issued for wind, colleges closed across Tayside and Fife, etc. No trains running, buses are all off, courts closed. It's crazy.

These were even reports of panic buying, believe it or not? :cuckoo:

Am I just trivialising the potential issues, or have we become a nation of scared wee girls unable to exercise commonsense and responsibility for our own safety?

Where's the resilience gone? Or am I missing something?
The aeroplanes are not grounded though.
Ken.

You sure about that. Edinburgh Airport- all departures delayed till this evening or cancelled. Just emptied the hound here in middle of Edinburgh. Lots of branches down, a scaffolding on one of the nearby tenemants is wobbling and boards blowing off, wheely bins escaping for freedom.

The fact a plane can land should dictate that walking down stairs should be fine - the delay in this case was not being allowed to use the stairs to exit - which to me is over-reactive limits.

Just a wee breeze down here that wouldn't warrant a windage click for a 300-yard shot, yet seven power cuts in less than 1-hour and it's now off until further notice!
🤔

Biggest challenge for aircraft are gusty winds and direction compared to the runway. Most commercial aircraft can take a crosswind of 30 to 40 knots. Edinburgh airport is currently gusting to 60 knots.

Wind direction is not clever either. Coming in from the Southwest so straight over the Pentland Hills so large amounts of rotary wind coming off the hills. Think of a river and downstream turbulence from a rock.

Take off is not so bad as you are accelerating up through the wind. But a down gust just after lift off is going to cause problems.

Coming into land is more difficult especially in rotary gusty winds which - you direction of travel is into the ground and hitting the ground in an uncontrolled manner at 100mph plus involves lots of paperwork in accident investigations.

Been stormy here in Ayrshire since around 1am but really kicked up a gear from 11am.

A few slates of the rook and a shed on its erse. Electricity has just gone off.

I’ve never seen winds like this in my 60 years!
