stud dog price?

The going rate is exactly what people are willing to pay.
They can choose to pay whatever the stud fee is, or they can have a POTL, or they can walk away.
Either way, the person with the stud will dictate the fee which has always been the case.
Not really. The person looking for a stud dog also dictates what the fee will be. Ask too much and your dog will not line any bitches and the bitches owner will deal with someone with more realistic pricing.
The dog would have to be exceptional for it's owner to break the current stud price.

We paid £150 stud fee for a good working ess dog with a very good family history of workers . We had 8 pups £1500 each and 3 of them have been bought by my syndicate members who booked them when I told them who I was using. All pups are now 4 months old and looking very well . In my opinion you don't have to have a field trial champion, k c registered and all the other bells and whistles bu..s..t as long as you know the dogs history
Correct. If you're charging sensible prices and the dogs are known in the local area they have already done their sales pitch on shoot days. It's when you're trying to sell for top money to people who don't know your dogs that you will need to be able to provide proof of ability and like everything, that will require certificates.

Quite right, but if you read my post, the stud owner will dictate the price, the choice is then on the owner of the bitch to either accept the fee or walk away.
Stud owner states the fee, bitch owner accepts or finds something else.

If someone came to me asking to use my dog, and I told them what I wanted (whatever it is) and they then said I would give you this instead, they would be politely told no, and to go and find something else. Simples.

I have a cocker bitch and there’s not a chance on earth I would put her with a poodle even if it was £4K a pup .

??? Sounds like the stud dog owner doesn't dictate anything because they will no no transaction if he's OTT. I want to sell my truck for £1000 over the going rate therefore I haven't sold my truck! It's just dreaming and not dictating anything at all.
The price is dictated by the going rate and not what an individual wants to charge unless, as stated before, you have something exceptional that is very rare and sought after!

A pup or the value of a pup is how I did it, not pick of the litter, but dog or bitch whichever would have been agreed.
That was before the pandemic craziness though.
Theres no way I’d be spending thousands on any stud fee I‘ll be breeding my shorthair soon hopefully, I‘ll let you know how I get on.

Wait a while and there will be plenty of dogs available when everyone returns to work.
I wouldnt pay or even get involved in the pricey puppy mess, I'm waiting.

Wrong time to be buying ! I think I will pay little or nothing for my next . That said I will expect to undo a load of bad handling and training by some fool with more money than an honest view of thier dog owning and training skill set !
Looking for something that hadn't bitten anyone hard , not nosey and not killed any sheep
