stud fee

I was wondering what to pay for a stud fee for my springer bitch?
Ive never mated her before and a friend has a cocker dog I was thinking of using.
He doesnt want a pup so was wondering what everyone thinks a fair offer is?
His dog is a basic working dog and has never studded before. Is there any fair rules where one doesnt pay until the pups are born?

£2-400 I would say, but given it’s un-proven I would suggest your friend should maybe wait until a successful mating is confirmed before charging. What do you envisage charging for any pups you sell? If you’re thinking of providing your fellow shooting friends with cheap or free dogs, vs charging £1000/pup for sprockers then possibly less, if you think you’ll be selling a litter for 8k maybe more!

Those days are long gone I’m afraid, ftc lab stud fee would be circa 5-600, price of a pup double that easily

considering I was thinking 400-500 for dogs/bitches I thought that was a fair fee provided the mating is succesful?

Yes I appreciate that but the days of price of pup for stud fee generally has gone, last litter of sprockers I saw were up there price wise with many of their pedigree counterparts!
