Stutzen Rifles

Deer harvest at my house took off with a bang . Three in October with the crossbow , two the first week of muzzle loading season and two the first day of rifle season on November 15th since then no sightings no shots . But the two on 11/15/25 were done in with my Mannlicher Schoenauer MCA 6.5x54 MS one at 65 yards and the second at 32ish yards . The larger one was at 65ish yards and done in with a Hornady 129 SST handload , the smaller one was taken two minutes later at thirtytwoish yards using the Hornady 123 SST handload . Both dropped at the crack of the gun . 1763213009661103.webp1763213046460287.webp1763213062873023.webp1763213078597476.webp1763214213199556.webp

Well done sir! You have excellent taste in rifles. In other news the 22-250 Ackley you sold me is a joy to behold super accurate. I let a lady I know shoot it and she was amazed at the shots going in the same hole.

Really pretty rifles If I could somehow manage too find my very own Compact Rugar I will have it within a moments notice, I love shooting this little thing its a perfect women's gun. View attachment 454771
very nice, how long is the barrel, on that :-) ?
😅

My Husqvarna actually has a dowelled forend as it was intended to be used in Sweden. Apparently it prevents the very warping you mention. My 527 is one-piece though.
very cool, i seem to remember the finish army also doing that to their mosin stocks around ww2, which could make sense for those conditions. 👍 What model husqvarna is it? A 1900, a 1640 or maybe even a 1600 ? :-)

Hello mate, and nice rifle, and yep, that division of the wood is nicely done, Pretty cool that you also still have the front sight hood as well :) - The 1640 uses a swedish version of the mauser 98 action i believe, and if accurate that should cock on opening then. The 1900 is cock on closing however, so that is an easy way to find out if it's an M98 based husqvarna or a later one. 👍 :)

It’s 100% not a 1900. Bolt shroud is different. I can’t tell you what a 1600 or 1640 looks like because I don’t have one 🥲. But Quixote does and keeps telling me about it as some sort of punishment for something 😊

I think Its around 16" If I recall, I believe the regular sized one Is more in the realm of 20"

Some of you will have noted I was looking for a rear sight for my Heym stutzen. They have one! But it’s impossible for them to post outside the EU without an arms export license that understandably they can’t be bothered to sort. For a bit of metal with a v cut in it.

Thanks Brexit.
