Stutzen Rifles

Decided I need something to look forward to once all this Covid19 business dies down and I get some time away from work in Accident and Emergency.

Got a hankering for a Stutzen rifle in .243win. I'm interested in what you folks think?

Just planning to use it for stalking, dont want a moderator on it, and I already have a 270win for if I am ever lucky enough to get a chance to stalk Reds/Sika in Scotland.

How about you come stalk reds with me in Scotland after all this is over?

Of Stutzens, I know SFA, other than that they're pretty and blokes in lederhosen hunt with 'em.

Kind regards,

Carl

Hello

I used to have BSA CF2 .308 Stutzen. Lord only knows what possessed me to get rid of it! It would never have won any accuracy contests but my word, what a lovely woodland compact rifle and what a good looking gun.......starting to get even more sad I got rid of it now.

That is a very tempting offer! Hopefully I'll be in a position to take you up on it :) Be something to make My family back in South Afric jealous!

beautiful looking rifles, very compact for hill stalking ect, I've always wanted one since I saw one up in a local gunsmiths many years ago. I have six different rifles so everything is covered from rabbits to plains game. didn't Bell use a smallish full stocked light calibre for hunting elephants. I picked up my BSA 7x57 at an auction, and I took it to africa for plains game, bit more loopy than my 270 but certainly more than capable on plains game. Lovely british built rifle that had been owned by a major in the army who had served abroad. deerwarden

Get one they are stunning,it’s a pity it’s not a 30-06 your after I’ve got a Steyr for sale bazil

That pic perfectly embodies why I want one!!
Totally agree. I love taking it out. It's noisy but does the job. Plus it's short and an easy carry. I'm a leftie so the Ruger was the only financially sensible route for a new stutzen! I wanted it in 7mm08 but they'd changed their chamberings by the time I'd got round to getting the variation.

Steyr Mannlicher Classic in 7mm-08.

Yeah I love using my mannlicher Model M, but want something I'll love equally to fill my open slot for 243.

First 'big' rifle I had was BSA CF2 - in .222! Once I removed the front barrel band and free floated it it was superb, but way 'over the top' built for the .222; don't get one of them with a set trigger, it became, er, 'independent' of user control toward the end, so I fitted a std trigger unit to it and traded it for a 595 tikka in that express/magnum calibre, .243!

Today I'd be tempted to go the whole 8.37metres and buy a kipplauf, but have been suffering for years with a bit of an "I'm Freeforester, and er, an R 93 user" relationship/problem! Y'feelin my pain?
