How is this a practical shooting vehicle I hear the naysayers whimper.

Picture this your late getting out of your warm bed and you need to make the high seat in time for first light. Your defender probably won’t start and your Hilux will ponder, wallow and roll around each bend and bump leaving you sea sick. Instead you channel your inner MacRae, with a blip of the throttle you rocket down the off camber, wet muddy lane covered in slippery leaves - confident on the knowledge your Forester will get around the corner at any speed your carrying, the AWD will keep you glued to the road and the Brembo bakes will haul you up in time as the tractor emerges from a concealed entrance. You are making good time why not swing by Greggs for a quick sarnie and a coffee. You grab your provisions happy you will have warm food and drink in your belly. You feel secure knowing that your rifle case is locked to the rear cross brace in the boot whilst you complete your snack transaction.

You arrive at the high seat location, the muddy rutted track leading to it had been dispatched with a waft of turbo ensuring you glided over the mud rather than tractoring through it. You set up for your vigil with a warm belly, fully alert and the smug sense of satisfaction that if you draw a blank then the journey is the best part of the trip.

A.) Y
ou draw a blank - work, school drop off, house work awaits - no worry you will drive the long way back carving through the bends like a mad axe man - you will get to whatever duty awaits you with a grin.

B.) You make the shot, its a good un, although the drag across the muddy field has made you allergic to ANY additional physical effort. You get back to the car thank full for the fact the boot floor is nice and low to load your gralloched (insert species name here) - the plastic Subaru boot cover means any additional blood, fur and mud wont ruin the car. You settle into the Recaro seats as you rejoin the lane, a satisfied smile crossing your face as the car squats down and zooms into the bright dawn straight to the chiller. You will still have time for any other tasks that await you.

Great machine. It’s the engine (the yanks and Aussies are allowed) that we should be allowed to have in the latest Outback in the UK.

This has to be the ultimate shooting brake.

I had one about the same age, ran it for 7 years. Great car, the 0 - 60 time was 5.9 secs, so much fun. Was a touch pricy on fuel doing long drives between the UK and Austria but hearing that subaru header pipe sound was worth it.

Great machines, totally reliable, I have had two WRX estates and they can pass anything apart from a petrol pump.
Both bought new, 54k in the first one and 78k in the second one.
Oh!! I just remembered, I had to replace a front sidelight bulb in one of them - drat.
