Suggest me some boots - lots of requirements....

Hi guys,

I'm struggling to find myself a decent boot that meets my requirements. First off i hate laces, they're a pain to slip on and off and they hold the dirt in the nooks and crannies all to easily. So it needs to be a welly type boot.

I need them for wild fowling so need to be waterproof and warm.
I need them for stalking, so need to be quiet and breathable.
I need them for walking the dogs, so need to be easy to be easy to clean and quick to put on.

I've tried lace up boots but really hate laces.
I've tried numerous pairs of rubber wellies, including neoprene, but they split and crack to easily. They're also not breathable.
The best pair I've had yet are Le Chameau Condor but after only 6months the zip has gone. Everything about these was perfect but I'm not entirely comfortable buying the same ones again. On a side note they've also removed them from their website as they have acknowledged a fault with them that they are trying to rectify. Picture for those who don't know what they look like:

As such I think I'm leaning towards a high leather boot, without a zip and goretex.

I've never tried Ariat or Dubarry but these seem to be what I think I'm leaning towards unless anyone can help me with another recommendation?

You will chop and change you kit/guns for the different disciplines so why not foot wear. My wildfowling is often wading through water/mud well over the top of my knees, also kneeling down in a gully. I wouldn't be stalking in my Dunlop thigh boots.

Stalking or foxing a hiking type boot, also this morning walked 200 acres of well on rape down tram lines and ditches checking out how much the pigeons had started on. So I slipped my Chameau wellies on.

You will only find foot wear to suit with a compromise....

I use Dubarry Wexford boots. First pair lasted six years without leaking, now on second year of second pair. Warm, dry, comfortable, easy to get on and off, which is a boon to arthritic fingers, first thing in the morning. They have a zip with which I have had no problem.
After six years the left boot started to leak, so I used Sealskinz socks until the upper leather of the boots wore out and split.
I use Hydrophane leather dressing that keeps the leather nice and supple and I always hang them up to dry after use. Expensive but very good in my experience.

As Tim has said I don’t think there is a perfect do everything boot....you either have to choose the boot for the situation or compromise. Personally I switch between the Chameaus or some Altbergs depending on where I’m going.

Go to Patrick Pinker and get a pair of Gumleaf wellies. Full length zip, neoprene lined. Excellent boot for the price, mine are on their third season.
