Superstitions

Anyone got any stalking superstitions? For example I always take 7 rounds from my wallet and put them in my top left pocket. I then put my gloves on then load my mag (it takes 4) then I have 3 in my pocket. Silly really I know but that's what I always do and I will continue to do so
be interested if anyone else has any superstitions which involve directly or indirectly there stalking?
regards Steve

That's just a habit. It's a superstition if you think that by doing things differently you wont see any deer/you'll only see out of season deer/the sky will fall in, or some other negative event... What do you think will happen if you only have two rounds in your pocket?

Got my first roe buck of the season this morning so something must be working for me. I don't know what may happen if I only have two rounds in my pocket perhaps I'll try next time.

The best way to break a run of blank outings is to forget your knife.

works every time

Went out with a mate shot three fallow.......not a knife between us and a long drive to get one, now dark:doh:. Broke some flints up in the field...sharp as any knife I've used!

Going for a "pee", having a Kit-Kat, or taking a smoke or sending a text whilst decoying pigeons or wildfowl usually guarantees birds that weren't coming in to your hide for the past quarter hour inevitably decide to arrive...

Numerous ones, like not taking 13 bullets to the hill. Never had a blank day when I've been followed by ravens either.

Ermm, not setting the alarm leads to much worse chances

So I didn't get my first buck of the season this morning.

Slightly counter productive but I always feel like the more rounds I take with me the less likely I am to get anything. Same with deciding how many cartridges to take to a pigeon hide or put in my pocket at the start of a drive. Something about fate punishing me for arrogantly assuming it would provide me with lots of opportunities.

When loading a shotgun I always put the cartridges in so the name on the brass is level/horizontal if you know what I mean. That goes out the window on a busy drive though...

Oh no! The cartridge alignment think! Very queer...and I do exactly the same too. At least I've good company in that....

Superstition carried over from my father, that If you shoot a hare, you won't go to heaven ... I'm not sure about the heaven bit, but have never shot one just in case.

That works for me every time too. If the pigeons or duck have gone quiet, I pour a cuppa from my flask; that's the best decoy I have!

sounds daft when writing it down !!
i always keep the empty case in my pocket from the last deer shot,
until its replaced with the next one

These are all great chaps. Keep em coming it's exactly what I was hoping to get it's nice to know I'm not the only odd bod out there

i do something very similar when fishing.

i always re-tie the fly to leader after catching a fish, and then chew on the bit of waste leader I bite off until I catch the next...

The fishing thing, surely, that's commonsense given chance of knot strain causing to break next fish on?

But the chewy part...ooh noo...that's definitely well superstitious.

In a magazine rifle I always load three rounds, even the .17 HMR,just a silly habit.
If I go for a scout round without a rifle I always see lots of deer at close range,go back get the musket and they are not there, even 10 minutes later.
Sit in high seat and light my pipe deer appear, always happens.

We all have our ways and habits which are completely different to superstitions. I discovered many years ago that the world didn't end when I stood on a pavement crack. There are enough things to think without worrying that you are not wearing your lucky socks !
