Update:

I had a rush of blood to the head and bought a TDV8 for £3k.

To be fair I know the car because it belonged to a friend of mine who always looked after it.

So I bought it.

What a machine! Fast, smooth and so far not a single fault! I expected it to blow up within 6 months or go catastrophically wrong in some way or other. I certainly didn’t trust it.

It’s a great stalking truck, but doesn’t like going past petrol stations much….

I’d always been suspicious of JLR autos-but must say I’m impressed.

Is there no love for the older model Nissan X trail 2.0 litre diesel ? I quite like the look of them. Fuel consumption seems quite good. Bags of room in the boot. Selectable 4WD.

Old Kia Sorentos and Hyundai Terracans make really good stalking vehicles. I bought a 2003 Sorento, 57k miles, for about £3.7k, it’s been superb so far.
I had a Terracan I bought it new 2004, did 250k kms then sold to my farmer neighbour in 2016 who has run it up to 400k kms with a very hard life with him as he runs the local recycling depot, now the cylinder head has died and spares have become unobtanium due to the 15 year rule. Car makers do not have to stock spares for vehicles older than 15 years.

My pal bought a used one with 150K kms ran it a bit then the engine went erratic and no garage could find the fault, they just changed injectors at 400€ each at each garage. He scrapped it in the end.
