Swallow, Swift and Martin watch!

Near Monmouth we still haven't received either swallow or martin - I am beginning to be somewhat concerned that ours have failed to make it in significant numbers. All fingers crossed for the warmer end of the coming week.

Martins have arrived here in the South Lakes this weekend. A swallow also seen by my Mrs but sadly it had died after flying into a neighbour's window.

The few that I have seen will be flying back soon if this weather doesn't sort itself out!

Four days until last years first Swift sighting for me now! I'm not holding my breath.

A pair arrived back on the 28th. Usually have two pair, always nice to see them return. I always say hello when I first see them sat on the overhead line in the yard.
Its not me that’s mad, it’s the rest of them.:-D

Finally saw my first swallows of the spring yesterday as well as the first house martin when fishing on the Doon. Definitely 2-3 weeks later than usual.

Mine were three weeks to the day later than last year. It’s no surprise though.

I saw a small flock of swallows this afternoon in Stornoway. Now just have to keep my ears open for a cuckoo

Grimersta always say the cuckoo arrives on the 28th of April and that was exactly the day he started in sunny Shawbost.

Saw my first swallow of the year today in Lygney just north of the Bristol Channel.
Still nothing in Monmouth area that I have noticed.

I heard my first cuckoo of the year this morning and also got a nice view of a male hen harrier.

:D 6:30 Saturday walk with her indoors and joy of joys we see them beating up the bugs over the lake
