Swallow, Swift and Martin watch!

No Swallows yet but when walking the dogs this morning was several wild Primroses with little yellow buds just about ready to burst open , there was no sign of buds yesterday ( I walk this route most mornings with the dogs)

So spring is on its way, but slowly.

Well, saw the first swallow tonight, when we were walking the dogs up the farm at 7.00pm.

A cracking night with the wind from the SW instead of the Easterly direction it has been coming from since November

We were watching the farmer rolling the newly sown spring barley field and saw a skene of Pinks flying over heading to the bay and the swallow was flitting about the farm buildings.

Always gives me a "lift" when I see the first swallow of the year as you know the weather should be getting better, saying that there is still a fair bit of snow on the Ben and the surrounding hills.

Cheers

A.M.

No Swallows yet ,and no show by our resident Ospreys either, some of the Larch trees have green buds now though so Spring is just around the corner, not sure which corner though.

Still nothing here in south wales. We now seem to be the last to get some. Primroses and snakes head fritillary in full bloom for weeks. Cowslips out pheasants calling etc.
Lambs now out of the barn so where are they ?

Not seen a swallow yet so its two weeks late. Normally see them on my daily commute. Farmer friend saw a solitary swallow at the Cotswold Water park on Friday (13th). 18c in Taunton at 8pm last night and everything bursting into life.

There was a swallow buzzing the surface of the lake I was fishing on, on Bodmin Moor, the week after Easter. In the horizontal rain.

Was working on my boat at Farm near Roslyn south of Edinburgh. No Swallows. Out again today and quite a few flying about and already busy tidying up nests.

Around a dozen Sand martins, for a couple of days, in Heywood last week. Not seen ‘em since.
They flew over the lake, then all settled in the top of a tree.
Ken.
