Swapping out Moderator for replacement with RFD

Saw a thread on here that eludes to swapping out a Moderator for replacement with RFD when one has worn out/burnt out and required renewing and doing so without the need for going down the route of a one-for-one variation as Mod recorded on ticket as NVM.

I have been led to believe that CF Mods held new with RFD would be on their ticket prior to being sold so the above would not be possible as would need to be recorded within the papertrail etc.

Has anyone here manage to swap one out without the variation paperwork exercise.

If anyone has I’d doubt they would admit it on here
Variations are a pain in the rear for Ono for one major delay in some forces

???? Its either a legitimate exercise or not, in which case it either can be done or can't be done,
I wouldn't like to think there were members/RFD's breaching or circumventing the rules and laws concerning such.

All I know is if you have a Wildcat moderator you cannot a;- purchase replacement parts from an RFD or b;- acquire a direct replacement without an authority to acquire opening on your certificate.

All Wildcat mods now come with a serial number that will be entered on your FAC at the point of purchase.

I have no idea how it works with any other manufacturer of moderators.

This must be a very new thing as i bought one last month with 2 thread bits and as far as im aware there is no serial number on any of the bits ??

No it's not, and of course there are.

You can buy replacement or additional parts from a manufacturer or RFD, for example additional baffles or a new 'bridge' or vertex chamber.
If the 'part' you need to swap is (for example) damaged and has a serial number on it then you would need a 141

You can't legaly purchase a complete new moderator without either an empty slot or a 141

Personaly I think it's nomnsense that moderators are S1 and the sooner that they are removed the better, for everyone (well almost everyone as i'm sure the price will plummet so not so good in the pocket for the manufactures/resellers).

Perhaps the RFD in question had old stock in the calibre/bore diameter you required and had no ability to put it down on your FAC as other than “one Wildcat moderator”.
