Swazi reviews?

Hi guys,

I’m currently looking in to a new smock

At the moment I’m really fancying a Swazi kagoule or the Swazi Rifleman

what are people’s opinions on these smocks? How thin is the rifleman? Would you have to layer up much underneath, is the kagoule much thicker?

thanks guys

Davey Hughes, the owner of Swazi, came out in favour of the banning of centrefire semi autos after the Christchurch shooting. OF course, this is his choice, and a segment of the public agree with him.

I vehemently disagree, and seeing what the Labour government have done since, using in part claims of support from shooters (i.e., him) I cannot support his company any longer. The clothing is typically good, but to hell with Davey Hughes and his backstabbing ways.

I ordered the smock in size L for my chest and room for layering. I'm 5'8" short. Excellent build quality and colour, but too long in the sleeves and hem. The pockets were too low requiring me to stoop to reach the bottoms.
Sadly I sent it back.

Have been using one for several years now. It has been used in all environments and whilst hunting all 6 species of deer in the UK constantly. For the money they are expensive when compared with other ranges of clothing. At the moment mine is now hanging on the back door of the bothy as the main zip has failed badly. I have asked Swazi about sending it back, but they said I would be charged, and frankly I have been so busy I have not had the time.
I bought some sweedteam gear about 2 months ago and I quite like it. My only moan would be there are too many zips.

i’m using two swann dri coats, one is a pullover smock ( camo) the other is a zip up in green with a detach hood, both have plenty of elbow room , warm and dry, they can get heavy in a monsoon but overall a decent bit of kit i’ve had for years, bit on the pricey side but you only get what you pay for in the long run, had no problems at all with mine

I use a Swazi Kagoul when it is really shitty weather. Works well for me, albeit a bit light coloured on hill where I stalk. Purchased it directly from Swazi when they had 20% sale on, price still stung, but not as much as UK cost.

I have a Tahr and been using it for a good few years.
Swazi gear is about layering. So one item is not a 'cover all bases'
The smock is a bit long but you don't get a wet arse when it chucks it down.
It's kept me dryy on a few occasions in the Wicklow mountains on 'soft days'

How long ago did you order? What sort of charges were there when it came into the UK?

Does anyone know how thick both smocks mentioned are?
I’m just not sure if the rifleman would be too thin?

The only Swazi worth getting for stalking is the Tahr, the rest have design shortcomings. The Tahr has not pockets (a good thing!)

I own a Kagoule, Tahr, and 2x Wapiti. My Wapiti XP from Swillington is good for general wear and game shoots but would not use for heavy duty stalking.

Another thing is, they will get holes in them and the fabric will wear if there is excessive friction (crawling over rocky ground).

Try and get one off here or eBay where someone has bought the wrong size, don't pay more than 200 pounds.

Maybe 2 to 3 years, max. I think tax and DHL rip off fees added at least 10 percent. Just bought 3 Swazi fleeces a month or so back. Got stung for import duties again, but still cheaper than UK. Add 20 percent to NZ cost and it will be less than that.

I had the Swazi Tahr and as per the comments above they are over rated in my opinion. Mine had the neoprene cuffs and water wicked up them and wet you through if out in rain for any amount of time.

Not sure if it’s changed now but the after sales was appalling too. I’d avoid the brand especially if you live outside of NZ as there are better options for less money out there.

The last sensible bastion of gun ownership ruined and shame he felt the need to contribute to its downfall.

Have two Swedteam smocks the lightweight version and more expensive Gortex Titan both good in pouring rain and laying on wet ground you find out why the Titan Gortex is nearly double the money it lets nothing in and you do breath in it

It's a shame there isnt a British equivalent with British wool as we have pleanty of sheep. I prefer a jacket as I'm a sweaty git and need the ventilation

Nowt to do with Swazi but the best feature on my Ridgeline jacket are underarm zips about 10" long so you can open them up and ventilate your sweaty bits ,a simple idea any tailor could duplicate if needed atb

I have a Swazi Kagoule which I really like and it has kept me dry in some really heavy rain but I’m not sure if I would buy another.

Stoney Creek stuff is really well made and designed and is available through Edinburgh Rifles which makes the whole buying process and customer service part a whole lot more desirable.

The fact they went from local production to East Asian (China/Thailand?) puts me off sadly, quality will only go one way
