I see the pair have been jailed for 4 years 3 months each.

I find that too excessive seeing as sex offenders can get a lesser sentence.

Emotions aside if you consider what they actually did ....cut down a tree ....hardly a just sentence.

I would imagine if I cut down a tree I wouldn't expect to be jailed for 4 years.

It affected a lot of people and had financial repercussions for many, although I would still look on it that the sentences were perhaps a little severe. But I see no correlation to sex offenders, drug dealers and the like, who should of course be getting meaty sentences anyway.

Maybe they should have got 2 years and 1.5 months. Oh, wait, that'll be what they actually serve anyway.

I think the issue is that the other types of offenders seem to get off far too lightly rather than this being too harsh. However, it does feel a bit like part of the country is going for nature worship rather than respect for nature these days.

Apparently one of them had been refused planning permission for where he was living and has mental health issues.

Local to me paedophiles don't even get sent to prison, what these 2 village idiots did was to greatly offend the bourgeoisie, even the prosecuting counsellor used the words "right thinking people,"

Ridiculous sentencing, pair of fannies, a hefty dose of community payback with imprisonment the consequence if it's not adhered to/completed should have been the punishment. Crazy to put them into the prison system, will do them no good and will do the public purse no good.

An illegal migrant no insurance wrote 7 police cars off on a fail to stop
Then was behind the wheel of a vehicle again no license or insurance injured several police officers & got 14 months
Not to mention the chaos he caused shutting the A1 for hours
A pair of drunken idiots fell a tree
They get 4 years & 3 months

Thanks god I’m not the only one who thinks it’s out of kilter. This country is bonkers that lady got four years for a tweet and these guys get four for cutting a tree yet as other people pointed out some scroat with a knife gets a tag and few months. Utterly nuts if you ask me.

One of the lads was a tree surgeon but he was not the one who cut it down .. just showed where to cut etc .
I was talking to the lads pal who said they just did it for kicks !! Ffs
They got caught because they videoed it and it got out . Then the police tracked there phones locations even though they were on airplane mode at the time of the crime and linked them to the crime ..
Have also heard that the one who cut the tree down was thinking of doing the angel of the north next ??

Thats exactly the type of sentence they should off had.
Or tying them up and firing wood chips at them.
When we worked on railways always joked would be a good punishment.
Feeding 18" birch or sycamore ( as they chip nice) throu a big 20 or 24"" chipper on a big tractor would be as painful as anything. Whole tree chipped in 1 min and firing chip out like bullets

It is mental they have 4 yrs each solely for felling a tree with no permission.
It wasnae even TPOd.

How much is that costing the tax payer.
Plus since over 3 yrs will that stay on their records for life?
They dont sound the sharpest tools in the box to start with but wot sort of job are they ever going to get with that on their Cv?

The whole thing from start to finish is very very strange.
Wot possessed them to ever even think of doing it and sounds like they might off got away with it if 1 never grassed the otherc1 in.

Granted it wouldnae be a world famous scenic tree.

To be fair to who ever was wielding the saw, the photos i seen he made a bloody tidy job off it.
Considering done at night in a gale the cuts are pretty tidy.

Also sycamore are a real pain to fell and pretty dodgy, so they either got lucky they werent hurt or had a fair idea wot they were doing.
Are notorious for snapping off the hinge and going where they wanted to go
