T3 6.5-55 Elite stalker

Play on words, but some may be interested in this one ;

Client supplied donor action, stock and associated small parts, with the spec being build something accurate and portable for deer

So, the T3 was stripped out, cleaned and examined.

I decided to work on the bolt face and re cut including lugs and action face / lugs due to some wear being present

Once lathe work completed, I lapped the lugs to the abutments in the action

A new extractor kit was fitted and a Phoenix 8 twist standard sporter profile barrel married to the action, chambered in 6.5/55 Swede

The muzzle cut for moderator threading at M14/1 mm with a knurled cap to finish

Once proofed, the barrelled action was coated in Matt black ceracoat by Liquid Steel Design who do my coating work

The client supplied PSE E-Lite stock was then skim bedded to the barrelled action as was the bottom metal which I think is a Walters Rifleman model

The bedding came out quite well and once final assembly and testing for mag feed and functionality the rifle will be collected by the client later today

I hope to have a range report soon

Some images of the build and “in progress”

Great build, do you find the aftermarket bolt shroud offers anything other than not being plastic?

The bolt shroud is unknown brand and alloy , so harder wearing than the original plastic fare

The shrouds on the T3x are now metal

One thing that is noticeable is the Walters Rifkesman mag does not release smoothly from the bottom metal whereas the stabdard Tikka mag does, Which is down to the squared design and tighter fit of the aftermarket mag

The mag has to be withdrawn rather than “drop” out which is good as far as it’s unlikely the mag will be lost if the catch is knocked and a possible issue if the end user we’re to encounter a situation that required a fast mag change (five round mag ns one in the chamber ) makes me feel this would be unlikely

Something to consider anyway if using aftermarket mags

If carlsberg did left handed stalking rifles..... thats my ideal build apart from I'd like a swept back bolt.... and a different caliber lol....
Nice work!!

Im
In the process of finishing a lefty Heym in creedmoor that will be for sale once complete ,,(client sale )

If anyone were to be looking for such a thing

Ok so had a play today. To put it in context I have done zero load development but this load works well in a few rifles and the wind was gusting at 25mph so hardly ideal conditions for a 100m zero :-( anyway it was good to get out. A few things took a little getting used to. The PSE stock has a less vertical hand hold than I'm used to and the trigger which is stock but I slipped in a weaker spring is still a little heavier than I am used to but nice break at about a 1lb. I think I’ll get used to the above it’s just a little weird to start with. The wind was so hard it actually knocked the rifle but managed a few groups in the still moments. As per attached a couple of three shot ones. IMG_3784.webpIMG_3777.webpIMG_3781.webpIMG_3783.webp
