Thar, I feel from your posts on Wildcats, you may have differing hearing abillities, when measured against some of the others making comment, or maybe a commercial interest somewheres?, As others who stalk professionally make comment on the plus side with regards to the attenuation of the Wildcat against some of the other moderators on offer! nothing personal bud, just an observation, or maybe you had an early Wildcat job, which was admittedly very poor. I have always found all but the old and heavy wildcats of around 6 years ago to be about the worst of the bunch for sound reduction.
The new wildcats are shockingly poor for sound reduction.
If you dont fire many rounds at a time and are looking for light wieght why not look at a A-Tec CMM Al from jackson rifles

Steve my comments are not only based on personal experience of these moderators but on back to back independent testing carried out not long after the P8 was released, it came bottom for noise reduction.
When the P8 came out was impressed with its construction and told Andy Banner this, it is a shame that its performance is not as good as a T8 or many other moderators.
Now if you have one of these and feel slighted by my criticism of these well I am sorry it is nothing personal against you, but the simply fact is there are a number of other manufactures of moderators that are quieter/cheaper/lighter than the P8. I hope that other potential purchaser are better informed when they make there choice.
The problem is not many people are able to test that many moderators back to back and make a proper informed choice. So people become upset when it is pointed out to them that perhaps there choice was perhaps not the best available.
The P8 had a big and successful advertising campaign when it was launched, but good marketing of an inferior product to make it successful is nothing new.
Financially it makes no difference to me which moderator anybody purchases, but forums are all about helping others out and supplying information so people can make a better choice of products.
Now I made you a offer to pop in to see me and have a coffee when you are next north of the Boarder, that offer stands, while here you could have a look at some other moderators for comparison. If you wish I will lend a sound meter from the Laboratory were I work to do some noise comparison tests.

Certainly not slighted or offended in the least Tahr, just can't equate the comments from pro stalker / managers, with these sound tests?

I have a compact Wildcat Predator on my .270 and a full P8 on my .223, both with calibre-specific diffusers - there's usually a lot of comparison of mod' effectiveness when we shoot on my home range. The only moderator that is noticeably different in signature is the JetZ Compact, which retains a distinct low end rumble. All of the rest are broadly the same - PES, P8, P Compact, T8, A-Tec, Northstar, S5 - when listened to downrange of the shot using the MK1 ear. We've all been really surprised at the lack of difference when similar loads and calibres are being used, not that this stops the partisan views and bickering!
The only noticeably noisy mod' I've heard lately is the new CCM centrefire one from Jackson Rifles - but it is the lightest CF mod by miles, so efficiency is at the cost of weight.

i think most of them are much the same.At the end of the day the deer are going to hear it anyway.As long as it is saving your ears it is doing the job.Just my opinion

The Alloy CMM ive been told is only suitable up to .243...why? Because it will be susceptable to firecutting larger cals due to its light weight construction...

I run the P8 COMPACT on all 3 of my centrefires, the .223, .243, and .308, as you can see from my previously posted picture. Each one has the closest possible baffle stack diameter.
I am slightly confused about some comments here, I have heard hundreds of guns with virtually every mod you can think of attached and I don't understand some criticism.
The P8 is not necessalily the best in the world (it stands up well though), but for most it is perfectly adequate, and BETTER than the T8 if you make sure you have the correct baffle stack for your calibre.
Price wise it is competative as well!
The Compact version is also pretty acceptable weight wise too!!

Uillie what caliber size is moderator intended for I've had a few different makes over the years and have recently gone back to T8's on my .308 and .223. No problem with return to zero when removed and refitted as i don't store rifles with mods on only down side is rust
The .270 i had a wildcat p8 fitted after 2 shots the end baffle kept coming loose no matter how tight you made it good on sound reduction but as with any strip-able mod they always need re zeroing after cleaning
I have a northstar what i use on my .243 no problem with zero shift removing and refitting but they are not as good for sound reduction as the reflex T8's they are noticeably louder
