Target .22 LR ammo

hi
I can only talk on the eley production , they do QC on all their products all the way through to test firing, the claim is some 600 checks, I have not seen all of these, some of their production can lead to poorer quality, this is their choice, if the product does not meet a criteria then the whole batch will be destroyed, so worn dies can still produce tenex, just as new ones can produce scrap, of what I know of RWS and Lapua they do similar types of QC just test firing changes slightly, just think of the variation in quality of lead, then the brass case and dimensions alone, Eley mix their own powder for rimfire, even more variation,
Batch numbers are just that a batch off the line are given the next number in sequence from the last one when it has been through the process of firing which finally gives it a brand eg match usually with the year in the number, the speed is also on the box of the top end of Eley and RWS not sure of Lapua, at the end of the day speed is not needed by the shooter, only does it group well, temp humidity and air pressure also play the part in groups on the day

Does Eley make their own powders? I know they change priming charge (mg wt) for different cartridges, but I didn't know they made their own powders.~Muir

The best accuracy I've had with my 15-22 has been with the RWS Semi Auto - consistently sub 1" @ 60 yds, no FTF, no FTE, no stovepipes etc etc - however, for mag-dumping I use the CCI AR Tactical bulk copper wash which are slightly easier on the wallet!
Mine groups really well with eley sport, £3.50 for 50, doesn't seem to like cci mini mags(£8 per 100) stingers (£2.50 for 50) etc, although most people say they are great in theirs..for hunting Winchester seem to be good stuff.
tried a load of remington one time about 18 months ago as they were selling 500 at £15 to get rid of them. Awful. Loads of ftf and stoppages. Mag tech were equally rubbish. Lots of unburnt powder, 50% supersonic, 50% subsonic from the same box.

Stingers were awful in mine - too hot a round for the twist me thinks although on the S&W forum the yanks swear by them? The 300 AR Tactical brick seems to be the best of the CCI bunch in mine.

Agree with the magtec problem - a very inefficient round with lots of unburnt propellant left in the barrel.

Again agree - Winchester subs are excellent if I decide to get the 10rnd mag on and go tactical bunny! Although it has to be the 40's as the new 42's won't chamber properly as they're just that little bit longer.

I use cci subsonic hps in my old brno as they cycle well and are reasonably accurate . In my anschutz i use factory batch tested Eley Tenex .I wouldnt buy Tenex off the shelf as there are a massive difference in group sizes from batch to batch and are more than £210/1000. The last time i was down at the factory i took some match as a benchmark, it was the 3rd best batch out off more than 20 tried. My barrel didnt like one batch of tenex as i wouldnt hold the bull.
When my current tenex runs out i might try some of the Eley match or even Eley Edge for indoors, i think you can get these batch tested.
