Tempory export of firearm to africa

i hope some one can help me. i am going on a hunting trip to south africa at end of april and have just been informed l need a export licence. i am flying out of birmingham with emirets.
where would i get one of these from

@YOUNG SHINNER Border force issue the so called export permits that the SA police force like to see. In reality your firearms certificate is all you need to satisfy uk regulations. I have organised this in advance but I believe they can be issued on the day you depart. Initially I would email border force to ask for advice. I’m sorry I don’t know the email address for BF in Birmingham but for Heathrow it is BFLHRFirearms@homeoffice.gov.uk
Hope this helps

ive been informed i can get one on the day from customs, but i would prefere to get one in my hands to go with the wad of other paper i have to be on the safe side.

going to try that email address with BHX instead of LHR to see if that works

If not you could try the LHR address to get the correct email. The process of getting one in advance is very straightforward.
Genuine question as I don’t know.. I assume that you have checked that Emirates fly firearms from BHX. Is the flight via Dubai to Joberg? Am asking as I have never considered going from Birmingham. I tend to go direct from LHR to JNB with virgin Atlantic

yes i have all the revelent permissions and letters to travel with fire arms. the flight is via Dubai to jo-burg. the baggage allowence is generous aswell, 2x23kg and 11kg hand baggage.

Having done a number of SA trips you need to apply for Border Force Temp Import

Copies of
FAC
Passport
Flight details
Letter of invitation

Apply to Border Force they take circa 7-14 days to issue it. At the time that you go to Heathrow or any other U.K. airport you can ask BF to do you a form then, it takes a few minutes but they will do it, I do both then it’s belt and braces. Before you get to SA print off and staple a file together that has everything the SA police unit need, it saves them a load of work and speeds up your license issue

Copies of

FAC
Passport
Letter of Invitation
Flight tickets and details
Place you are staying
U.K. BF temporary export license

All the above aggravation is why lots of guys now go to Namibia it’s a much smoother process and great place to hunt

Can I ask what route you use to fly to Namibia please?

Flew Heathrow to Johannesburg then on to Windhoek did it with Virgin who use Airlink as their partner for the Jburg-Windhoek leg. You check your firearms in at Heathrow and they getting checked straight through to Windhoek so no picking them up in Johannesburg

That sounds brilliant, especially the firearms being checked through to Windhoek! Thanks 🙏

You can go with Ethiopian Airlines through Addis Ababa or Lufthansa via Frankfurt or Munich. However I think doesn’t take firearms from several U.K. airports. However Lufthansa charge handsomely for carrying firearms to Africa, €250 each way !Personally I would avoid O. T. Whenever possible. So fly Ethiopian.

Flown twice to OT paperwork in order and met by the outfitter and gone to the office all good and taken no time.
Also picked up several SA hunting mags from the office while waiting on my case arriving.
