THE BOW HUNTER

I’m pretty sure it’s just not specified as a legal method and therefore it’s deemed unlawful

Either way, the bow was a fine method for thousands of years but come 1968 well it just became unethical
Some will say well Guns are more ethical, give it a few decades they’ll say hunting all together isn’t aswell
Is It truly fair too consider something unethical In 60 years later with the advancements made with them though?

The first commercial Compound hut the US Market in 1968 It had 20% let off and shot 150-200fps with a maximum of 50lbs draw weight
Today compounds shoot shy of 300 FPS have 80% let off, up too 100lbs draw weight, not too mention the technological advancements with frames, sights, cams, stabilizers, releases, broadheads, arrow shafts etc.

I dont think rifles are truly ethical outside of a head shot, but logistically there the only option we can use here and a head shot Isn't always feasible, the reaction from archery shot deer seems too be genuine confusion rather than panic from the shot since Its quiet.

Archery deer either die on the run, or run and stop usually within sight and tip over dead without knowing what happened, rifle deer in my view are clearly stressed and suffering from the moment of the shot going off.

Every one has a case, however the bow against these shots as an example falls very short.
110 yds and 140 yds.
It has been said the bow hunters let it slip though their fingers "use it or loose it" and they lost.
Yes it is a high end skill I concede to that but very limited as to it's use.
No good in high wind, distance, as to noise I have shot numerus pairs of foxes and deer as if you shoot the downwind one first the second often might run a few yards or just raise their head. :tiphat:

I think it’s listed as a prohibited method for birds and The Deer Act 1991 specifically prohibits the use of bows/arrows/spears for deer.

So it is not that it’s just not listed as a legal method, it is specifically prohibited.

I’m all for bow hunting and would love to do it!

Well didn’t know that then, I wish it would become legal here. In fairness it became legal in Bulgaria I think it is not too long ago as another legal method
Could do here if it got enough voice action behind it

I think it would be really handy for urban muntjac.
I cant really understand why some are against it.
I dont believe for 1 minute it was prohibited for any good reason.
Wasnt many months ago lamping feral pigeons was illegal, that now legal.
All it takes is a change of a few words

Anyhow, you’re right. I don’t think there is any good lawful reason it’s banned but how do you work up the ladder of bureaucracy to get it written into being legal that I do not know
I’d love to it legalised, absolutely cock all reason it isn’t but I would defo mandate a competency test and knowledge test purely so bams couldn’t just go buy a bow and shoot cause it’s not as simple as picking up a bow, personally I’d limit it to Compound or sighted Recurve, I wouldn’t personally favour unsighted trad bows but then what’s to say my opinion is what counts

Wonder how long it’ll take for Tim.243 to find this one funny aswell 😂😂😂

Petition by Deerhunter22 to legalise Bow hunting in the UK was quashed in favour of..
Ashtrays on Motor Bikes
Chocolate Tea Cups
Fixing potholes
Heat Pumps
Small boat crossings
Flying Pigs
Also not raining on Bank Holidays. :coat:

Its not the tool too shoot big groups of fallow in the middle of fields, but carefully picking them off as they filter through woodland on trails just like how the US does it, It keeps pressure down and can shoot in higher risk areas.

Its a niche weapon, but useful in cases. 👍
