The cost of boar shooting abroad

I differ, I have never stood at the bottom of the Great Pyramids yet through my books i know as much as most do.
I may have seen 50,maybe a 100 videos plus of driven hunts...man in seat shooting at game being driven to or past him doesn't constitute "finest hunting" imo maybe fantastic shooting and herein lays the difference
Definitely earned an armchair expert award at least!

And I did say " isn't what my own personal idea"

I love driven boar shooting and done quite a bit of it . Also sat out many times at night too shoot boar.. Driven boar the finest hunting? I'm doubtful as there are many hunting forms I've not tried and am never likely too . A good days ratting with terriers is as good a adrenalin rush and cheaper than £1000 to shoot a yearling boar on a average driven day.

Too right!

Driven boar the finest hunting?
No. Hunting for many is to actively pursue the quarry. Having sat plenty of times enough I know that the thrill of stalking up to the quarry is a totally different way than sitting with thermos and phone as some do.
A well known editor of a hunting magazine sent a selfie to me one day from a high seat whilst waiting on Hog Deer. I said "wtf are you doing on your phone ****ing around when you should be observing"?

I had a Danish guest come and hunt, he had been in NZ and had succumbed to the big red stag behind wire caper and when he and I had done a few days in our bush he said to me "this is real hunting" as it is ,on foot and hopeful.

I went stalking for Chinese Water deer. Its deer stalking equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel. I've done my fair share of roe and fallow stalking and it must have had some attraction as I've done it for 50 ÷ years. 20 years ago I would have been tapping you up for a trip down under for a hunt on the Sambar.
I've culled plenty of park deer and would never pay to shoot a fenced deer or boar no matter how big its antlers or teeth. Now in my dotage I like the game to run or fly to me and the comfort of a high seat does have its attraction.

It has been offered to quite a few SD-ions, only one took the opp. It is a tough game too, its getting tougher ever year.
I remember the time I could carry out a fallow on my shoulder. Now I won,t shoot a deer or boar unless I can gett the quad very near to them or help is on hand. The joys of getting old.

There is video floating about of me carrying fully mature Fallow bucks...they were the days long gone where it hit my navel. This is a mate in Tassy doing the same.

From late September to mid-February, in Spain, we have "monterías" all over the country every weekend. They take place in almost every village (in my hometown for instance, there are at least three driven hunts per season). The prices are highly variable depending on the conditions and characteristics of the hunting. On one hand, you can hunt in a fenced farm where all the game has been bred in so called optimal conditions. The organisers guarantee that you are going to shoot due to the high density of animals and usually there are big trophies. These are the expensive ones, worth thousands of euros. I, personally, strongly disapprove these huntings with "seeded" game. I have never been in one and I have no interest at all. On the other hand, you can hunt in wild open areas and in the mountains in natural reserves or in public lands managed by the local governments or by hunter associations. Here nothing is guaranteed and while some of these "monterías" are great others are extremely anodyne. But certainly they are very authentic experiences. They include breakfast and lunch prepared with very traditional dishes. You can pay from 70€ up to 350€ depending on the area. Some territories have better densities of game than others and there are differences in the species you can shoot: wild boars (always present), red deers, fallow deers or mouflons. In Castilla y León sometimes is allowed to shoot wolves. If anybody is interested in any specifics, just PM me and it will be a pleasure to help. I used to go to a lot of monterías in the past but nowadays I just mainly stalk.

In post #6 I wrote about monteria in Portugal. I seem to remember each day cost between 50 - 200 euros all open ground hunts. The 200 euro was the best food and the worst hunting with very little game seen or shot. Those Monteria trips, hunting with the locals was one of the best hunting experiences I've had in my long hunting life.

Jagare ,was that the one with Vlad ?, if so I was also on it, a good trip as I remember, I also went with him in January to Croatia, also a good trip on the Boar, I never did fin that young ladies mother.

The hunt you and I went on was for mainly red deer. A great trip and your, one liner about the young ladies mother still makes me smile. I think we nearly drank the bar dry that evening.

Yes a great trip, I got a large stag on the last drive, and a nice wild Boar the previous day, I also missed a few.

I´m also from Spain, and this post summarizes the Spanish monteria very well indeed. I was thinking of writing something similar, but hey, I´m too lazy and at the end Rsl did it for me!

I´ve never been too fond of driven hunts. Just attend to my hunting club ones, included in the annual fee. Finest hunting? No, but a lot of food & drink, good friends and some hunting. Stalking and rough shooting whit my dogs is "finest" to me ;) .

As I don't/won't fly and don't/won't drink booze, I will stick to sitting in Barry's tower at Littledean.

I have never managed to get invited. Local German hunters here tell me of state forests offering 50-100 Euro per day hunts but you really have to be in the know to get into them. I have been on two, a 650 Euro Croatia one and saw nothing and an 850 Euro on the local US training military ground again I saw nothing. That's me done with it.
Hi
Don't give up yet. My mate is in with a French outfit. its situated in the middle of France 2.5 hours west of Geneva.
They have 3 massive fenced areas and drive boar with beaters and or Dogs.... We were charged £200 for 3 days accommodation and £450 per boar shot. No boar no fee. A party of 4 shot 5 each. You can ease off but that is harder than you think.

Best
Johnny m
