Hi Hammo yes mine is the cz 527 i have a MAE moderator on it i have only used the 20 grain vmax they do shoot very flat and straight i will see if i can get some 25 grain to try out i have also got the dies for reloading it was me that started the thread so its ok regards Danny

Out last night in a lull between the rain and gales, nice breeze and dark but very wet underfoot. We got very lucky as I spotted a pair which we had been after for ages, anyway after a short downwind stalk we got downwind of them as they crossed a stubble field. Just got into shooting position as first went through the hedge/ditch, rear fox stopped just out in the field and game over as the .17 Fireball did its job. I was watching with the thermal and the first fox shot out of hedge and started to run back across the field, it went about a 100yds and a loud shout stopped it and its fate was sealed. Two foxs dead in approx 20 seconds. I predicted that the first fox would be the dog and the second would be a vixen, and was correct. Vixen clearly not pregnant both in very good condition. Very impressive shooting by my buddy and without thermal wouldnt have been able to get him on the vixen.

Out on a estate of 270 acres on Wednesday night and within 5 mins shot a large dog fox , an hour later and 100 yards from the first kill another large dog fox was accounted for , that's 4 dogs since 15th of Jan on this estate.

I'm down on the Devon Cornwall borders and shoot lowlands and on Dartmoor. I haven't been on the moor for a while but lower down the Foxes have been calling since December up until a couple of weeks ago, mainly dogs but have heard vixens as well. I've heard more foxes this year than for many a year and I've also seen more foxes than I have for many a year.
After about November I rarely call foxes whilst lamping, just spot, move up, spot again and shoot, any call will usually have the foxes bolting for the woods in seconds, down to bad/excessive calling and a lot of pheasant shoots nearby that make the foxes lamp shy quite quickly. I've had probably a dozen from September to Crhistmas and I've had about the same since then, haven't been lamping once mainly morning mooches and daytime calling. For me daytime calling will account for foxes you'll never call at night especially when they are dogging. Only ever use the old school squeak through thumb and forefinger. I had a dog and a vixen last week both called from same bit of cover, called to close range and dropped with .22 sub in the nut, I missed another big dog who ran out the bottom of the piece which was unsafe to shoot at. I'd seen all three of these, vixen, dog close on her tail and the other big dog trailing a hundred metres behind early that morning headed to the old quarry. Waited until lunchtime and pitched up at the edge of the cover started calling and out they came in seconds. I account for loads of foxes this way and more dogs than vixens.
I haven't seen any signs of cubs but it's not unusual to see them this time of year, last year had a litter up the road in January.

I have been doing my usual weekly rounds in Kent and Hampshire, overall calls and squeaks just aren't working. Most are plain ignoring the calls with far more interesting things on their minds whilst some are bolting for the hills at the first whisper of a squeak.

I don't usually bother with daytime shooting but this saturday might be my first go.

I would guess Foxes will be going out at dusk now especially Vixens they will b hungry with growing cubs in their bellies ,I seem to shoot quite a lot at dusk in spring most years when waiting for Deer most estates say to me fox first every time as they are more interested in reducing numbers before birds start breeding.

This Monday eve a dog and then about 1 mile away a vixen which was pregnant but on feeling her belly they felt about the size of walnuts. Its been quite noticeable that every night we have been out just silence.

I had two dogs and a pregnant vixen last night the unborn were 2.1/2" long I have stop useing mating calls on the the foxpro as I have heard nothing for over 6 weeks and they don't seem to be reacting to them

I sat out last evening over bait and never saw(thermal) or heard a thing. That's the second night on the trot, but I have have nearly one per acre in the last year on my little patch.

Out tonight Romney marsh area grassed one in broad daylight, hour before dusk, after that, haven't seen or heard a single fox, its like daylight down here, early night for me Tonight.

Just been scanning with the thermal moving areas and laying up

I heard a fox calling tonight - from experience, I suspect that it was a vixen with cubs calling for food to be brought. The area is down two foxes as the result of our being there though, so she might have to go and hunt for herself.

I'd have thought that where you are - being in the south of the country, the first cubs would be well developed by now, and should be above ground before long.
