The Game Fair Blenheim Palace

Show was good but signage to get in was a joke , don’t know what car park we ended up it but was a good twenty min walk over rough ground to get in !!!! Glad I didn’t pay for special parking as never saw a sign for that !!!

Went sat afternoon sun morning, every year seems to get smaller, last time it was blenheim was twice the size. Like others said nowt much rifle wise or scope wise and no reloading kit or components. Last time I was there norman Clark had 8lb pots of varget !!! . Free basc 3 day pass is only draw for night away .going back to the old game fairs couldn't get round in 1 day they were vast or was it just I was little !

Very little for the rifle shooter, fine if you want a second hand shotgun.

I was looking for a rifle sling, could not find one any where. However if I needed a Saville Row suit…plenty to choose from. Or an Aston Martin come to think of it.

Little wonder then that the average non shooting person that goes to these shows thinks shooting, like fox hunting, is only done by the toffs.

You obviously didn't look very hard then.....

Saw lots of different types of slings for sale, all over gunmakers row.

But then again, not everyone can see the woods for the trees.

I went into around a dozen stands couldn’t see any so gave up. Decided I’d rather give the money to my local gun shop, better solution all round I think. Even at my age you live and learn.

My wife and I had one of if not the best venison pie ever from wilddeer.co.uk Barrage associates and found a pint of cider for £5. Watched and enjoyed a few nice demos on cookery and butchering and bought a few things.
The weather made it a great few days, but the camping on our part needs some serious thought. Not enough toilets or showers, and the traffic/pedestrian management was rubbish. I hope the deer stalking fair doesn't fall foul of the same fate.

I took Young Pine Marten, my mother and Even Younger Pine Martine to her first ever Game Fair on Friday and it was a great day out. Yes, you have to go at the speed of the slowest 5-year old in the herd, but I knew that. Also, my mother is between cataract operations so needs a respectful and discreet eye kept on here whereabouts, but then she did take me to my first Game Fair when I was an annoying 15 year old London teenager badgering his parents about hunting, and that can't have been an easy day out either. I brought a picnic this time as I thought I'd rather keep the budget for experiences, ice creams and scrumpy. Many thanks again to the volunteers at the British Falconers Club (https://www.britishfalconersclub.co.uk/New_Site/) who have once again provided unofficial daycare facilities - and free eagle and owl feathers! - for my children. And actually, I'd like to thank the people from the Festival of Equitation (Freddy Steele at The Game Fair) in the Main Arena for providing the most memorably kitsch and over the top vaguely Olympic-themed voiceover for their otherwise impressive display. Lots of people mentioned it on the walk back from the car park, so perhaps that's the job done!

And no, I didn't buy anything. Couldn't find much I was interested in. But that's OK.

Well, we've just got back from from a pretty full on 3 days at the fair (5 in total), helping to man the stand in the sporting dog pavilion and taking part in the gundog parades with 21 other breeds with the Chesapeake club. Personally I'd say a huge thank you to the people who gave up their time to bring their dogs along at their own expense in pretty unfriendly dog temperatures. Also to the staff manning the gate into the gundog camping area. We don't get a chance to see much of the fair but managed to grab an odd hour or so each day, enjoyed the chance to have a look through some nv/thermal gear and browsing the guns (shame Rigby weren't there). I'd gone to have a look for a new wildfowling gun but came away with the most beautiful little 28 bore FAIR o/u that kept winking at me! There were however some serious issues, the 1.2 mile walk from gundog camping to the marquee (especially given the heat), too few toilets and showers that were rarely working properly, overflowing bins etc. Hopefully, the return to Ragley next year will sort that out.

Mrs G went on Friday and told me that the gundog parade was the best part of the Game Fair, so many thanks to you and all the others who took the time to make it so memorable. Apparently the announcer called out each breed, which then came into the middle of the ring, whilst the others carried on parading around the perimeter.

Mrs G's only complaint was that there wasn't any seating around the ring, as otherwise she would have stayed there most of the day.

She had a great day going around the gundog stalls, and came away with yet another whistle and lanyard - she is like the Imelda Marcos of dog whistles!!

Been to Blenheim game fair twice. But not this year. The car park is ALWAYS a bloody mile away, and often you have to cross a road before you even get in the gate. Not for me, too much hassle.
Had two days fishing in Norfolk, caught some nice fish.

@willie_gunn. Thank you for the kind comments, I'll show your post to the organiser of the sporting dog area. What makes it worthwhile is meeting the people who are genuinely interested in working dog breeds and more so those who have never seen or even heard of some or any of the breeds that were present. There is a huge amount of work and organisation that goes in to getting those dogs there, not to mention expense on banners, club branded clothing etc. We do it because we love our dogs, here's to next year.

Please do - Mrs G thoroughly enjoyed the session.

I went with the same intention, a new rifle sling and a rope clip lead for the dog. Left without either!

Aye, I was quite miffed at the distinct lack of anything rifle accessories wise other than £300 tripods or drag bags
