The Guardian on the gun lobby

All the hoo haa over Basc telling members to use particular answers to questions in the survey, ... the guardian's links take you on one to the gun control lobby where they are doing exactly that! Pot & Kettle or what?
when will they get the fact that it was a total police licensing muck up that was at the root of what happened & how about making sure the current rules / laws are followed by the authorities, instead of the usual more gun laws cry.

The goal of such articles is to always move the inconvenient truth, blame away from the police and on to us the gun owners.

An interesting take on it from a certain perspective.
Of course this never happens and is never done by the left leaning anti field sports brigade. Who will rally respondents from every corner of the globe to put in an opinion. Thinking of the above mentioned trophy import ban that basically stomped all over scientific option/ the views of the people who actually live in the locations in favour of public opinion pushed by self interested celebrity types.

MP’s are busy protecting their own job looking to be re-elected, looking after their own self preservation.
Difficult to choose between any of them come the next general election.

But isn’t that what you pay your chosen shooting organisation membership or club subs for? They are there to give advice and lobby on important issues and topics that may affect your sport. I have had “advice“ on this particular very important matter from, amongst others, BASC, NRA and NSRA.…..and, having taken such advice, penned my response accordingly.

Typical “Grundian” tosh

WJ are good at empowering their supporters to achieve their aims.

Yes, bit of a weird article - “shooting organisation supports shooting” sort of headline.

I do get the idea that some of this is informed by the situation in the US. As much as the the Graun (and its readers) seem to hate the US , they’re also obsessed with it’s politics. I wonder if a part of them wants to conjure their own equivalent of the NRA and “assault rifle” situation just so they can get righteous about it.

Edit - quite funny to see BASC being criticised for being too effective…

Shame the consultation didn't cover the issue of the shortage of resource in police forces which is the real reason this tragedy happened. The biggest problem with our current licencing system is that it's overly bureaucratic and there aren't enough police to properly check everyone (or do all the other things we want the police to do).

Whole thing was bizarre. Shooters should not be allowed to comment on a consultation that affects them. We should have to identify ourselves as shooters so we can be ignored presumably.

Usual Bollx. Plymouth happened because of the laws inadequacies, not a Police Horlicks. Dunno who the Senior Coroner was but he must have been 103.

And how many members does the Gun Control Network have, beside Bob Marshal-Andrews and his wife?

So frustrating to read an article that basically says “Public consultation garners strong response, but it was the wrong people so let’s scrap it”.

The reality is most people are indifferent to guns but supportive of the broad idea that we don’t need more bans. Of the people who care, the vast majority are pro.

More importantly, as we all know Plymouth was caused by underfunding. If the resources were available to enforce the law as it stands, it wouldn’t have happened.

Numbers can and will make a difference here.

The firearms licensing consultation impacts all shotgun and/or firearm certificate holders in GB - circa 600,000 of us.

If let's say 50,000 responses are submitted by us it’s certainly an improvement on the 12,758 responses to the 2020 Home Office firearms safety consultation but it’s still less than 10% of certificate holders having their say on government policy.

With days left to the 23 August deadline please click the link below and spare 5 minutes of your time to protect the future of gun ownership.

I really don’t understand BASC position on a number of these points, much is around tightening up current losse processes and areas that are too wide and open to interpretation. Surely better licensing is good for everyone?
