The lightest Rifle out there ?

I think that a light rifle is very important and you get a light rifle by thinking about every part of it. Rifle, mounts, scope, .......
But to light is just to much. A Tikka T3 lite is about as light as you can go, without getting to much recoil. A Rem 700 or Howa in one of Edi's stocks will also be great.

I had a 308 scout , it was awesome apart from one thing , it wouldn't group at all with any ammo , factory or handload ? there must have been something wrong with it I'm sure but I gave up in the end and had riflecraft build me a rifle.

the steyr scout concept is fantastic as a stalking rifle and if you find one that groups buy it!

Im on my third and have two at the mo. The .223 was average but I never tried very hard to improve the groups. The .243 is .5moa with factory ammo at 100y and moa out to 400+.

My .308 is sub moa with PPU which is nice It only gets heavy when you fill both mags up with ammo

If you are going to remove weight, remove it from the stock, scope, and mounts; leave it in the barrel.
To me, a lighter rifle is not for a beginner, because it is more difficult to shoot well.

your lucky , mine was dreadful ! I'd get it to shoot about 1.5 moa then put it away , the next time I took it out the first shot would be somewhere in a 12" circle randomly , just not good enough to stalk with !

I tried it clean , dirty , bipod , bag , harris bipod , even sand bags and would it buggery behave !

such a great concept but mine was a pup I'm sure!

I reckon this would be light in .243, just put one of those funny counter weights to make minimum length and you're set.

P.S. if you can't cope with recoil off a .243 you're doing it wrong.

a mate of mine had one in .243 totally did his head in got it to a group but not fantastically and like you put it away in the cabinet get it out and all over the place factory or homeloads made no difference.

I think everyone needs to realise that the op wanted to know what good light rifles are out there, not your opinions on wether light rifles recoil too much

That is true. A few have been suggested. That been said, the opinion of the forum is that it may not be a worthwhile endeavour. Sometimes devil's advocate is just as useful.

I sold my .243 to Lightweightjoe last night. We put a target out at 100y. My first shot was an inch low from an oiled barrel and the next two were in the half inch dot and practically one hole- all from the Plastic fantastic bipod
Great concept and great accuracy. I hope I don't regret selling it

As far as I know Muir, it's never been legal in recent history to hunt with pistols/revolvers in the UK & We can only dream of such firearms in the UK now!

I know. Sorry. Didn't mean to rub it in. I just tossed it out for fun. I intend to kill a deer with this some day. The previous owner only shot 110 grain bullets in it. I've only shot 170 Federal factory ammo. (ouch!) ~Muir

The days are long gone now when we here in UK enjoyed the pleasure of using handguns. I cannot imagine the law will ever be rescinded and the general public allowed to own them again.
A good friend had a TC in .35 Rem & I had a couple of hefty rascals too. Great fun & now history!

Still, I think the OP would not really do much better than a Sako Finnlite for lightweight practicality. I don't own one, but have a friend who does and I think it's an excellent rifle. ATB

I've just read in Jakt & jägare magazine about the new Sako M85 Carbonlight. 2.395 kg and only with the S action. .22-250 .243 .260 7-08 and .308 It got a very good write up but it won't be cheap. www.sako.fi/rifles/sako-85/85-carbonlight
