The out yesterday or today thread and...

Had a wander for a couple of hours this morning far too warm 15c ...soon had to take my jumper off 🥵
Started off with a nice hen pheasant then it was hit the wood for squirrels. Not many about this year but managed 5 , 1 not picked as it fell over a cliff.

I lifted my 1st woodcock of the season and a big covey of grey partridge consisting of about 20 birds.

I stopped for a breather and a silly magpie landed in the tree next to me.

Also rescued a lamb that was tangled up in some bramble.

No shortage of game or variety in your patch SD. Jess looks as if she's on to something. That male pheasant...it's a whole bundle of trout flies just waiting to be tied.

Went out got a few pigeons shot with steel shot for a friend's hawk and also got threatened by a dog walker who was trespassing on private land, good morning apart from that.

Out before dawn on a long ol' walkabout with my Winchester.
Seen close to a thousand pink feet come in to stubble. Watched them coming from miles out. Awesome sound and spectacle.
Shot a few squirrels and sniped a cock bird for a meal.
Winchester model 94's have been putting food on the table for over 130years now!

I actually really enjoy sniping a few pheasants with the .22, good fun & less damage. Got to say also how much I enjoy using my new 20 bore, its a joy, wish I made the switch years ago from my old 12 bore.

Absolutely, it's harder if anything!
I've only ever owned two 20g cartridge guns. A Remington 870 and it was very good and a Franchi 820. They were very good. Oh no I forgot, and a Baikal single.

Is that woodie from this year? haven't seen one yet, should be over with the last moon but usually a precursor of bad weather to come. I shoot just the one every year, as I love to see them but enjoy eating them too. It annoys me to see them hanging in butchers shops for sale, at a pittance, eat what you shoot!

No no, that was several years ago now.

Lovely day for me yesterday - few hours in a high seat resulted in 2 fallow prickets for me and a doe for one of the other lads

I too had a lovely day - out with the 6.5x55SE shooting a few targets and Temu plates (which are taking it well but boy do they make a smack when hit!). Best bit though was my wee lassie Rua came with me and I walked a few woods with her and fired a few shells from the Semi 12g - none of which bothered her at all - we are both feeling rather pleased with ourselves, tired but pleased…

Had a misfire with a 6.5 - first ever though I note the pen mark on the rim which kinda suggests it is a dummy round which some eejit clearly mixed in with live rounds….

Ten minutes later….

Then I remembered the pen mark was to remind me next reload that another Head Separation check was a must….

*** Apologies - just realised that it doesn't include deer :doh:Maybe that nice man @csl will move it somewhere more suitable***

Lovely weekend courtesy of Richard and Spike at R&R Sporting managing murdering culling a few fallow - took 4. Including a couple from the very ground in this video - most I saw on Sunday in a group was 12 and they weren't hanging around

Total for the LL/FL sessions was 34 with some stunning shooting by other guns 🙌 👏
