The out yesterday or today thread and...

Lucky man that you didn’t do yourself an injury and never worry about the fox Smelly - your paths may well cross again, hopefully soon.
As for the rifle - luckier still, if it had been me I would have broken it and likely my neck too!

I kind of held onto the beast which slowed my decent. Still filled the muzzle with leaf litter!

Took my granddaughter out with me for the first time pheasant hunting.
I missed everything dam pheasant 😔.
But we had fun on squirrels and some fast pigeon.
She loved tracking prints pointing out badger, fox, pheasant and roe.
When asked if she would like to come out hunting with me again a resounding yes was heard 😁.

Had a 3030 day. Not for deer, just small game.
4 squirrels got to nibble on a different nut today. 180gn Sako bullets with a pinch of alliant unique behind them.
Didn't get a shot at a rabbit after a good stalk but did find 6 buck fallow.
They weren't bothered at all me squealing for fox which never showed but it was good to hear one buck grunting like a pig and then two started pushing each other about while the rest watched.

The 180gn bullets are very lobby at near supersonic speed. I think they are from the 1970's!

Sorry..deer related ....naughty lot we are

Headed off to Devon on Thursday in the rain...plan was to arrive and then down the pub for a drink and a meal. My mate needed to get a fallow for a mate so was heading out...and bless him, he waited for me to arrive about 4.15. Very quick change of clothes then 5 mins to the one bit of ground. Spotted a group of fallow in the field and managed to get within 100 yards of the edge of the field on the quad. My instruction was to get one on the deck then shoot any more I could. Quick walk to the edge of the field then a muddy crawl to get into position prone and there were 2 clear with the big lad in a better position then the pricket. Pic below is just before I shot him so ignore POA.

The boundary isnt far away so he got a pinning shot to take out his front shoulders at about 140 yards.

The group ran on and most went into the wood but 2 prickets stopped so dropped one of them around the 200 yard mark .

Good start to proceedings on the deer. Most of the rest of the weekend on the deer wasnt great as either on neighbouring ground, no safe shot etc...got soaked on more then one occassion.

Sat morning I was invited onto a lovely little shoot run by Bumpy22 who is a very close friend. Windy as heck and somewhat damp at times. Great bunch of guys and a real laugh. Unfortunately my draw of pegs wasnt great so managed 1 shot and 1 miss on a hen pheasant but I didnt mind one but as it was a great day out.

So despite crap weather not a bad few days

The last time I was out, I wasn't quite sure I'd hit what I was shooting at, as it legged it ... I downloaded the onboard footage to the desktop, looked like hits with hair flying off, BUT no cigar!, So back up the farm this morning in the snow & low cloud / mist, set up one of those heat pad things to check zero, single shot perfect impact point, So all niggling thoughts at back of the mind now gone.
On leaving I was buttonholed by my farmer, A large empty salt lick bucket full of frozen beef cuts!
He must have been thinking of the idiot on the high ground at all hours in driving rain & screaming low temps. :-| :norty:
