The P70(?), the Portland Caping Knife

Here is the next addition to the Portland Series of knives, the P70(?), a dedicated Caping knife, the sharp pointy and slim thing from my On The Bench Today thread.

Obviously narrower in handle width than current Portland fare but still very much of a length to ensure total control and dexterity. It also maintains much of the geometry and ergonomics of it's siblings, which is what makes it a Portland.

70mm blade length and a mere 15mm from spine to blade edge.

Shorter scale length (at the front) exposing more of the stone washed ricasso/tang, almost extending the blade length.

This one has black/orange SureTouch™ scales, there will be options though of course.

It has been for testing and was found to be an ideal tool for the job, it is now on its way to a prominent south west taxidermist for further analysis.

All shall be reported back.

I have a few less professional pics that give an idea of scale, this little thing works perfectly for separating the tough skin & cartilage from around the coronet. It rotates beautifully in the hand and like all of Stuart’s knives, the heat treat strikes the balance of edge retention and the ability to re sharpen perfectly.
Really impressed with the sure touch handle too, it has a reassuring weight to it, and it s definitely a step up in grip from standard g10.
There’s a pic with a Mitchell P90 for scale, then a few pics it’s a little sika stag showing it in use.
Another great build, looking forward to some feedback from the taxidermist.

Those photos are much better then mine 😂

Photos showing the knives in use are always welcome, yours do relay the scale of the knife much better too, thank you for them and for your feedback 👍
