Jesus! Is the world going mad?

Just looking at some ideas for later this year ..

Defender - everyone has one - boring - £90K +
Ineos - test drove - awful
RR Sport -110k!
VW Toureg -88k!
Land Cruiser - £70k +

Who on earth is buying this stuff?

Running out of ideas..

Not sure Tourag or Landcruiser are ‘high end’
They are from many peoples perspective.
Funnily, I had been told the used market was seeing sensible prices again. The backlog of new vehicles on order was reducing. I still see people trying to sell a year old Hilux for more than new price though.

Did jokingly look at how much a new defender/discovery would set me back. For the options I picked it'd have been £70k... went onto the approved used section of the LR website, and similarly equipped defenders going for £25k with I think 45k miles and 6y on the clock...

There an awful lot to be said for spending £5,000 on a car & running it into the ground over 5 years/80,000 miles. Which is what I’ve done for my last 8 cars.
My wife is the same J, she will buy a couple of-year-old car and run it into the ground, uses the car for work business use as well as private.
Just changed a wee Fiesta 14td titanium and ran it for 8 years.

Just keeping my 30yr old landrover on the road serviced it today and put a new radiator in and changed diff and g/box trans box oils ….195k and counting

That's exactly what I do. 10yrs ago I bought my Seat Leon TDI FR thing for £3500. It now has 200k on the clock. It is making some funny noises but it adds to the character. It probably is time to replace but it gets hard when the attachment is so strong after so many years. Poor little Sergio. I don't know what I would do without him.

Jimny was 19 in January. 129,000 hard miles on the clock. Cost me £3k nearly 12 years and 80k+ miles ago - could probably get a couple of £k or more now - still going like a sewing machine - just wish her owner was….

The UK landcruiser market definitely peaked with the 80s series and even they were like being in an arm chair. Out of that list I'd probably go Ineos, I haven't test driven one but it's the only one on the list with proper axles

Have you ever run a Landcruiser? They are NOT high end, more like a tractor ..
Really like a tractor ? I drive a Hilux, and whilst it feels agricultural and utilitarian besides even a Ford Ranger, its really not tractor like.

Like driving a Tractor?; Talk to me when you try and use this as your daily commuter in a capital city. On the other hand LEZ compliant 👍

Buy about 4 years old "full fat" RR with about 35k about £40k. Bought a last of old model RR (2012) a year old in 2013, £25k less than list, now done 127k miles and the non-consumable (brake pads, disks, tyres) bill in that time is less than £1k. I know we've been lucky (and the rear wiper isn't working!) but that's good value.

Quite fancy a Ford ranger though....
