The price of cars!

Ive always had Isuzu crew cabs as my every day work and social vehicle. At present I have an auto 2017 plate which I bought second hand with 32k on the clock about 5 years ago. Not had any trouble out of it at all. That's my 4th Isuzu, including a new Rodeo in 2007, which I ran up to 90,0000 and part exe'd for a 3ltr.
Second hand prices on these are mad, I have been contacted by Isuzu several times and asked if I want to sell it or part ex for a new one, which is over 50k now.

I wouldnt buy a Ford Ranger, too many issues with them. One client/friend bought a new Raptor. 6000 or so miles, engine blew up. Another friend 2ltr Ford Ranger, oil pump packed up 600 miles from home, seized the engine. And my freindly local mechanic has had many in with head gaskets blowing.

I admit I am a bit of a petrol head, and have a second car on the drive. But if you look hard enough you can still find a bargain or two.
Yup, same as me - touch wood no issues with my Isuzu, had a brand new ranger and it was a heap of sh*t 3.2 wildtrak and I tell everyone at every opportunity as Ford were no help at all, engine washed 3 of the 5 bores, was using coolant and they replaced it and then told me the engine was only warranted for 30 days….it took them 9 months to find the fault with the original engine….🙄

I’m not surprised after reading the comments section on a Land Rover advert on social media. There were many complaints from owners detailing issues. Some providing the VIN openly as they were so exasperated with how little was being done.
I know of a civil rights engineering firm that run landrovers, the directors wife was telling me they were just about to take delivery of their new Range Rover but we’re keeping the 3 discovery’s and newer defender they had, when I asked why she said because there are always at least 2 of them broken down…I asked why they don’t walk away from landrover and she openly admitted it was an image thing….absolutely bonkers to me but in the similar ilk of farmers with John deere tractors!

Last year pre reg Audi Q2 £32k.
6 month waiting list at least for a new one. The markets rigged. Car insurance up teason I was told as SH car prices up yet couple of months ago read a big report stating SH trade car prices had fallen almost to pre covid levels. I have never had a new car. 2x Zaffy diesel's SHd no more than £3k both did over 250k miles. 30k miles a year.

It’s not so much that price of cars have gone up per se, but the vast majority of cars are manufactured overseas. Leading UK brands such Jaguar and LandRover are mostly built overseas. Even those that are built in the UK incorporate a lot of overseas sourced components so

1) over the last several year our currency has devalued so vehicles are more expensive to import in terms of UK £

2) we have added huge lawyers of beauracracy on all imports. This has inevitably added additional costs of processing, agents etc etc. Of course we don’t pay tarriffs, but we are still adding another several percentage points onto the cost.

3) shipping is more expensive given increased costs of fuel and little challenges in the red sea. Adding an extra few weeks at sea going via Cape of Good Hope adds to the cost. Just the cost of money - trade finance runs at about 2% per month.

All of which probably adds a significantly to the cost.

Toyota had major flood damage in its South African plant where it makes Hilux adding to supply issues.

And here in the UK our own wealth and in particular wages have fallen a long way behind our contemporaries. We spend a ridiculous proportion of our income on housing.

So that £50k car to one of us here in the UK, feels like a £30k car to somebody in Europe of US as a proportion of their disposable income.

We have chosen to cut ourselves off and put hard borders to trade. Well no, that’s what Boris, Sunak et als Interpretation of the last election has been. And we are all living the consequences.

Still other closed off economies pay even higher for vehicles so keep them running for a long, long time. We will regain the skills to keep vehicles running and to refurb / upgrade as and when required. There is no reason why cannot retrofit upgrades such as adBlue to older diesel’s and bring them up to new emission standards, but there is not yet the industry or the regulatory regime to allow such to happen.

From an environmental perspective the worst thing is to scrap a vehicle and then remake it. Much better to refurb and upgrade.

Do they work in Russia ? Or North Korea perhaps ?

Must be loads of money in engineering people’s civil rights 😂

I take your point about RR stuff, it’s a bit cringe
A Range Rover …. Is so crude and footballer’s wife , I’d rather walk than drive one. That said, with all best intentions, I’d probably find myself walking to my destination anyway .
Kindest regards, Olaf

New Land Cruiser arriving at my dealer in Canada. Expected in June. Priced from 70-90000.00$ Canadian. No diesel like my two old ones , only gas.

You’ve picked a few of the top end Chelsea tractors and tbh they never get “ bought”. Only leased, so the price doesn’t interest the eejits that get them.

Just buy a Hilux anyway.
I bought 2 Range Rovers, a classic and a P38.
Both at least fourth hand and both gave me great service, I still regret getting rid of the classic.
My rationale for choosing the Rangie over a Defender or Disco ran thus.
No one buys a Range Rover as a work vehicle, it’s a status symbol so it doesn’t get thrashed or handed to the junior sales rep or emergency maintenance guy.
It gets 5 years of easy life with the CEO, then gets traded back and someone else with a lot of money buys it and drives it for a few more years.
Finally,10 or 12 years later, I pop up, get it for a song and proceed to drive around like a lords bastard in a really nice car.
I’m looking for a decent L322 and I promised myself I wouldn’t..

I like the logic
