I said in post #1 in this thread that this was a bit of a side project, this the third project I have worked on with a good mate of mine, he is mad into his military knives and fancies himself as a bit of a maker (and he does a lot for me TBF) so I work on these projects with him, he does all the admin and sales, he does bits of assembly work, tapping, bluing, that type of stuff, I do all the blade work and handle work when it is called for, this one and the last one had wooden turned handles so we use a wood turner here in Sheffield for that, that is another thing we try and do with the projects, bring in local craftsmen and traditional skills to work on the knives, folk who do things the way things would have been done. Hence the hand chequering on this one.
The project previous to this was the 'Woody', a wooden handled, second pattern, FS knife. These were commissioned and issued predominantly for the RAF as they were much lighter than the metal handled knives, they were classed as disposable items back in the day, they did not expect many at all returning from missions
Of particular note about this project was the blades, I have another mate who operates a forge here in town, he has some old FS dies for his drop forge, so we drop forged the blades themselves, FS blades would always have been made this way at one time but will not have been for decades.
All the projects are very much a labour of love and are not profitable in any way
