evening chaps.

iv put in for the above rifle, it will be used for roe and a bit or target practice, probably 500y,
ideally id like to make use of my many thousands of SRP, i will probably buy new norma/lapua brass, i also have a good few LB or vhit N140 which looking at the vhit load data can be used for a good few bullet weights, (which im aslo using for my 223) im thinking around the 130gr for deer, and the Hornady 140gr / 132gr ELDM's for the target practice, as powder is a bit scarce at the moment, i can get some vhit N560 which i also see is usable, anyone using these powder in the CM? any advise will be much appreciated as ever, regards powder, bullet weights and makes, NOT my suitability to reload, im now a reloading god round these parts

Thanks,

Lee

Everyone will have a different idea but component wise I’m using the following:

Lapua SRP brass
CCI BR4 primers - don’t have a huge stock so will have to source an alternative
Hornady SST 129grn
Staball Powder

I have just looked at Vihtavuori’s updated load data for 6.5 creedmoor. I’ve been using N150 in my 6.5X47 and a 130gr ELD-M for years. 37.5gr giving 2820fps with and SD if 5fps. According to the tables that’s 2gr over max load for the larger cases creedmoor and expected velocity down nearly 200fps

I honestly don’t understand what’s happening with viht they keep changing their data and making it lower and lower. I had a 6mm creedmoor that wasn’t even getting obturation with the published data.

If I were you I wouldn’t bother with 2 loads. Just pick a decent bullet for deer and use it for target as well. Get to know the ballistics of the bullet you will use in the field. 130gr tipped game king or a 143gr ELD-X. Both had good BC and below 600yards you won’t seem much gain in ballistics data between nearly every bullet available. Even a .308 which as we all know has the ballistics of a brick.

The data on the viht app provides details for both powders you have available. Work up from minimum in .2gr or .3gr and see if you get something that works.

I thought you’d decided to give up reloading!!

N140 won’t be any good for any of those weights, n560 will be ok, n555 will likely be better.

N140 will spike pretty quick, it’ll work but it’s sub optimal, good for 100 gr and below.
i will save that for the 223 then, maybe order a couple more N560 tubs, and or search about for something else, it will be a good few weeks before the variation comes through so iv time to try find something suitable, its finding it, then hoping the shops willing to post it 👍

As said mate RS62 or N555 are the powders that seem to be regarded as 'best'

RS60 or RL17 (same powders) also work and work well, but are known barrel burners

For stalking use, RS60 is magic.

Very strongly recommended for a short barrelled Creedmoor.

I used the RS60 for 100gr TTSX for a speed of 3300ft/s so yes it certainly works

But RS60 it is a known barrel burner. Completely up to the user if they are fine with that.

I think if it’s just stalking use, the barrel burning isn’t something to worry about too much.

I’ve used it for 114gr Yew Tree in 6.5PRC. That got them to 3450. Possibly a touch quick for shooting roe deer 😬

Yes I found the same with using the TTSX on Roe if you hit anything solid

One of our PRS shooters was getting very good results with N160/140ELDM 24". Others swear by RS70 even for short barrels.

I found N160 accurate but relatively slow, RS60, ramshot hunter, and now staball 6.5 have better velocity.

The RS60, unsurprisingly, being the quickest of all.

Don’t let it get you down, you too can achieve greatness by swapping your .308 to a 6.5X47.
Windy day at 1000 yards on Stickledown, new shooter using my 6.5x47.

NS: "What does that orange thing in the bottom corner mean each time the target comes back up?"

DB: "That means it was a V bull."

NS: "Why is no-one else getting them?"

DB: "Because they're shooting 308s."

@Stalker1962 - get yourself a 6.5x47 barrel for the AI & some 142gn Sierra MatchKings 😉

Apologies to the OP for thread diversion but to answer the question - stick to one bullet in the 120-140gn (ish) range for both deer & sub 800 yards target shooting. N140 will be fine.
