Ok, just one more thing:
What about political subjects that relate directly 100% to UK deer management?
For example, posts by BASC encouraging us to lobby our MPs in advance of a particular parliamentary decision.
Where will those threads be found? I'm sure you'll agree that it's important that they reach as wide an audience as possible.
Perhaps in the Legal section of the site, rather than in Political Discussion?

have you considered setting up your own forum which you could run entirely how you want? moderate how you want ?

that way you wouldn't have to try and force the moderators here to do things the way you want rather than how they want to run their forum ?

Indeed. At one time I did run a forum, so I know broadly what's involved.
And it's not about running SD the way I want. I'm very much in favour of the splitting off of political discussion. However, it just seems to me that there may be a few small teething troubles in the way it's implemented that could be detrimental to the site's core interests and membership.
I think feedback from members is important in order that the site continues to develop and improve, and I'm sure the site owners are wise enough to recognise constructive criticism when they see it. Whether or not they act on it is up to them.

You're missing my point completely.
I'm really not that fussed about my thread.
It's the fact that any sensible deer related thread could end up being shifted to Political Discussion, and therefore be lost to many members, as a result of someone taking the thread off track and into the realms of politics.

I'm confused here.

So csl has said that if a non-political off topic thread is hijacked by a few people with a political slant, those offending posts will get deleted. The thread will be kept non-political and in the general off-topic.

In this instance with VSS, that hasn't happened. So, would it be reasonable to infer that csl views that VSS' entire premise for the thread was political in nature? Clearly this is something that VSS strongly disagrees, and wants to challenge?

Back to the original point of the original thread, yes, it is much quieter on here since the political stuff was hived off.
I hope that moving forwards threads can remain on topic and that the mods manage those who attempt to derail threads accordingly.

There didn't seem much point in having a thread about how nice and peaceful the main site is since the politics were moved, being placed in the Political Discussion section, did there?
So I agreed with csl to delete it, as he wasn't prepared to reinstate it to its original position. It was totally meaningless in its new location.

But again, that's not the point. It just serves to illustrate a potential hiccup in the new regime.

Yes, plenty to worry about.
Do you know anywhere in North Wales that I could hire or borrow a towing vehicle at short notice? Got to take a twin deck livestock trailer over to Suffolk on the weekend, sort out a load of sheep, run some into Colchester market on Tuesday morning and also bring a load home to Wales.
And the turbo had just failed on my pickup.
So I've got a bit of frustration to work off.
