Threads About Knives?

Just wondering if they are acceptable and if there would be any interest in such?

Nothing for sale, I know the rules pertaining to that and where those threads go, just projects that go through the workshop past and present.

No intention to flood the place either, just when something might be a little interesting and vaguely relevant.

I am sure the other makers have projects too.

A few commercial knife makers post threads periodically [e.g. Easton, Bowland] and the SD community appreciate seeing the wares as we use and shop for those items.

And there are a few more of us who are enthusiastic [non-commercial] knife-makers who post images of our attempts too. Hit rates on those threads suggest they are also popular.

Since you pay trade membership, I cannot see an issue with a commercial post, but perhaps run the idea past one or more of the site owners? @csl

I love seeing threads about how it's done. There was a series of programs a while back that had no narrative whatsoever, but was almost a video diary of how various things were made. One of which was an artisan knife. The program makers merely filmed the various stages from selection of the raw steel, right through to the finished item. Fascinating!

That was a chap by the name of Owen Bush and it was very good.

Would love to see such threads on SD.

The demise of BB was a huge shame - it is greatly missed. I’ve not found anything to replace it, though the Bank Manager for one is probably grateful for that!

Maybe there should be a knife/blades section on the forum. All things knife/blade related. Making/forging/using/owning, general interest etc.

We have no problem with an occasional trade related thread outside of Classifieds, just so long as the member has 'Trade Member' and it doesn't become a 'For Sale' ad. :thumb:
