Thuroclean

Hi Jockey, I've tried it and it's excellent. I'm a target rifle shooter as well as a stalker and I use .308 exclusively for all my shooting. My experience with Thorroclean has been exceptional. It is a highly effective cleaning product and gets rid of fouling that many other products don't touch - especially if you want to address the build up of carbon or copper fouling in your barrel - and especially in the front of the chamber where carbon rings have a tendency to appear. As a competitive shooter, I am extremely particular about the accuracy of my barrels, and I absolutely wouldn't clean with a product that would be harmful to either the accuracy or the life-span of my barrels. In my humble opinion, Thorroclean is extremely effective, but not necessarily essential to use every time you fire a few shots. For most stalking rifles, a more basic clean using more conventional methods is probably more than adequate - each to their own.

The most important and game changing gun cleaning accessory is a bore-scope. Without one, you cannot hope to actually see how clean/dirty your barrel is, so I'd thoroughly recommend getting one if you really need to see if your cleaning regime is effective at getting all the fouling out!

The reference to Bartlein barrels - I've just been on their website, and there's no reference to Thorroclean on there that I could see. They make reference on the cleaning page to using Remington 40x, and Thorroclean works in exactly the same way - Thorroclean is basically an ultra fine abrasive (Iosso) in suspension of the liquid. It is perfectly safe to use as long as you flush it all out after the cleaning phase with the Thorroflush or another adequate solvent of your choice.

Thorroclean is used by serious competitive shooters - have a look on Youtube and you'll find people like F-Class John and Bryan Litz who will tell you what they think.

Cheers,

Jon

Thanks for your advice, I have used wipeout patch out for a few years, but am always prepared to try new products.

Wipe-out Patchout is my normal cleaner, and I use Thorroclean as needed (usually after a big competition where I might fire 350 to 400 rounds.....)

Thanks Jon. Do you find the Thorroclean removes stubborn carbon that wipe-out struggles with ? It doesn't matter how I try with wipe-out ,there is always some carbon streaking left in the barrel when bore scoping, just out of curiosity , do you use bronze brushes or nylon?
Regards
Steve.

Bronze are a must for carbon, however no carbon cleaner ( chemical ) will remove stubborn carbon.
That’s where the iosso, JB, thorroclean come in - only to be used on a patch or iosso brush

Thanks for all replies, I will give Thorroclean a try and see how it performs, the fact that it is pretty much odourless is a plus as I always clean my rifles in the house and the good lady complains about the strong fumes of wipe-out patchout.

I have been using Thorroclean for a couple of years in my rifles. I have found it to be an excellent product. A friend brought it over from Canada. Anyone know where it is available this side of the pond ?
Others have asked me where it can be got as they’ve seen its efficacy.

I believe March scopes [Garry Costello] imports it , I think spud sells it .

Oh yes - if you want carbon gone, Thorroclean will do it! I use the Iosso blue brushes but have also seen others use the ‘patch on a brush’ method with great effect. I’ve stayed away from using bronze as the combination of Thorroclean and blue brush is recommended and it works a treat!

Cheers Jon, I'll get some Thorroclean and iosso nylon brushes ordered, looking forward to trying it, some great advice here.

I use it with butches bore shine rather than with the thorroflush, find it a better combination personally. Strips everything out easyily, use next caliber up nylon brush and removes carbon ring at same time as cleaning barrel
