Tikka t3 stainless

Come in to this a bit Late, i have a T3 Stainless Varmint, it's about 5 years old, other than clean the barrel every 50 or so rounds, i never touch it, but there's not a bit of rust on it, however i use this polish on anything new Belgom Alu Alloy Aluminium Chrome Metal Polish 250ml Cleaner | eBay just make sure its clean and dry before polishing and take the action out of the stock. i swear by this stuff, i spent a month polishing a motorcycle frame to a mirror finish and i used to use this polish once a month, i rode that bike through the winter with salt on the road etc, but there was never any signs of it not doing its job.

Belgom Alu polish is classed as a medium abrasive which contains a wax. Perfect for Aluminium, Brass, Nickle and other non ferrous metals. It's also pretty good on Chrome as its abrasive content is not hard enough to 'polish' the chrome away (like it does to the softer metals) but will remove marks and crud that is stuck to it. They do sell a specialist product for chrome (which is a fine abrasive). Belgom Chromes. The wax coating it leaves does offer an element of protection and will make the thing look shiny.

Stainless Steel (especially 416R) is different, using Belgom Alu will abrade the surface slightly and will remove marks and other crud etc (it will also make the stainless smooth and shiny, if you rub it hard and long enough) but it also leaves a wax coating which will stop the stainless from building a protective, Chromium Oxide, layer. It's a bit defeatist really as once you start applying wax you'll need to keep on applying it and if you want to do that i'd suggest that a light film of a decent, modern. engine oil would be better and a lot less expensive.

Well it works for me, and there's no rust on my Guns, but i do clean them from time to time. Got lots of modern engine oil ( i run a workshop ) but it leaves a sticky residue and attracts dust and grit which is also abrasive. but each to their own.
