TIKKA t3x 20 INCH BARRELL 6.5X55 ADVICE

Thanks for the advice everyone.I have placed the order and I will be having a play around with your suggestions when it arrives

Regards Landy1

2720fps with the 140 sst , with 46.7 grains of n160 SAKO 85 FINNLIGHT 22 Inch barrel

What pressure is that running at? Sounds a lot for 22".
Vit 13 ed. seems to only get 2687 at max charge 46.7gr with a 140gr sierra using a 4.5" longer barrel.

Hi edi I have no idea of pressure but no pressure signs at all , I worked up the load and temp was around 17 degree s very impressed by this load for my rifle it also shoot s the same in my mates 6.5x55 with no problems also regards Jim

Just some musings. Large capacity case allows large load of slow burning powder and a long barrel allows full burning so velocities increase but chamber pressures are down or at least minimised. Accuracy, it is theorised is also related to the proportion of the shell filled with powder as in cases like the 6mm PPC and 6mm BR. So that ideal proportion in a big case is achieved with a bulky slow burning load.
Smaller case, fast powder and short barrel equals good velocities, greater efficiency and possibly accuracy (in terms of powder used) but chamber pressures are going to be higher than the former case.
So my theory is that a strongly built, short barrelled 6.5 could be in a smaller capacity case to achieve efficient powder use. But if you don't care and a big case like the Swede is what you have, then go for it. Just don't expect a slower powder to give the same performance.

It does seem like a lot with a 140gr.
I got this with velocity with N550 out of my .260 but it was warm to the point of unease...
