Phew! I’m just tired out reading all that. Retired 15 years ago from my main job on 13th of this month. Retired from (unpaid) game keeping 3 years ago. So today consisted of school runs for some of the grandkids, dropped the car off for an MOT, service and broken spring replacement. Did a bit of housework seeing it’s annual women’s day I’m told today and Mrs Pedro still works, bless her. And relax…

Finished work at 04:00 machining some blocks of steel down to some sort of resemblance of what was on the drawing.
Geez I wish the engineers would speak to the guys on the tools before ordering up material for a job. Probably saved £200 with the material they ordered compared to blocked material, but cost themselves easily £2k in machining time and tooling. 😓🙄

Straight home, grabbed the kit and dog before heading out stalking with my mate who just got home from a job up in Aberdeen.

Seen a few deer, but unfortunately out of season, and got soaked to the bone with the snow/sleet.

Back home, showered and an appointment with the lawyers to get the wills sorted. (Mum decided it was priority since my dad passed). Then managed 2 hrs sleep before heading to the gym.

Now fully awake and still in Nightshift mode 🙄

Today, first thing run and fed my dogs , fed my hawk then off to work erected 200m of stock fencing, hung 2 12ft gates , rushed home and went stalking, no luck saw 6 fallow but no safe shot . Just a normal day but very enjoyable in the dry 😀👍🏻

Went snowmobiling. Rode to town for coffee with friends. Then made a trip to post office for mail. Rode about 35 miles and saw one red fox and on coyote plus 8-10 deer. Got home and snowshoed for a mile or so to exercise dogs(and me). Flushed three coveys of Huns and a few grouse.

Sat on my backside staring at a computer screen. But in doing that I fixed a fair few tele-handlers and backhoe loaders across the globe. Its not quite like being on the spanner’s, but on a bright note I didn’t get wet & cold and now I only lose knuckles on my own jobs!
How plant fitting has changed,I remember it well up too your eyeballs in mud just trying to find a shed track before you could drag it out and fit it.Gone are the days when you cut your way in and weld your way back out. Too much technology for my liking. One of our Hitachi excavators apparently kept losing the computer twice which was near impossible according to the technician, being under warranty it wasn’t a cost issue for me just inconvenience.Third time around I looked at it,cleaned the contacts on the arm safety switch never had a problem after that.

Went to see some people that were up their on arses to explain to them that yes we are building houses in a field out the back of their 2 million pound houses,But not to worry as there will be a soil bund behind their houses so they won’t see the 9 housing association ones too much.Jumped in the car and watched them arguing with their wives in the rear view mirror as I drove away.😂

Ps: And I did risk an appointment with HR by letting it be known throughout the office that dungarees were an acceptable item of workplace attire this Friday only!!
HR will be fine with that when you explain it’s part of your LGBTQ+ allyship and diversity and inclusion, as you gave up discrimination against HR for Lent. Regards from an ex-HR Director.
