Ben orford has to be on the list fantastic knives but they come at a cost
York knives make some nice stuff mainly bushcraft but has started doing a few hunting style knives
Jsknives are fantastic but he isn't currently making much at the moment
Selfemadeknives does some nice ones
Field and steel also do some nice knives mainly bushcraft but is starting to make more flat grind knives

So many talented and quality craftsmen out there I don’t think a tick against one person would be fair or true.
Like rifles, scopes or thermals people vote for what they own.

Allan wood knives are knives he makes the ray mears woodlore knife, as I say there nice but they are also up to around £400 lol
I love Alan wood blades enough to own two 🙂 but for me Danum have come through as a real hardworking blade I use 3 of them and can’t fault them for any use, from a red to a rabbits they excel at everything.
Having a blade made for you is a personal thing really, I’ve owned most uk blades, and now pretty well sorted with what I want, only thing I’m now looking for is unzipper for the small deer, the bigger unzipper I have is a fantastic piece of kit made by relative lesser known blade smith but it was made by hand from start to finish and it’s a lovely piece of kit
Each to your own choice and what you want is the best way for anyone 👍

I’d add Ben Orford to that list! He’s more Bushcraft & green wood working than hunting, but his quality is superb and he’s a lovely guy to deal with. Also Lee from Stoneypath

Thanks for the photo. Nice to see those Alan Wood knives. I know them by reputation, but have never seen one in person. Interesting mix of pins on those top two with the loveless bolts, G10, etc. And the handle shape similar to the Woodlore, but different.
Yep the scales do fit the hand very well, others I’ve seen do have the “woodlore look “ about them but these are slightly different
They are both flat grind, to be honest they haven’t seen a lot of work, the centre bolt and liners have a light reflective material, a guy I met when stalking in essex said it evolved from stalkers providing feed back to alan wood and that turned into reality on a few of Alan’s blades, but that’s all I know of them , I actually purchased them on here the SD from a guy who decided to reduce one or two his AW’s
They are well made and hold an edge, all all had to do to keep them razor is decent strop up after use, I don’t use the leather sheaths when out just near fit plastic sheath easy to clean and the original doesn’t get bashed up, I have kydex for all my other blades for the same reason for a decent working blade you won’t go wrong with a Danum
Cheers
Phil

I have Alan Woods, Marc Zabrovski and Stuart Mitchell’s. They all have their own unique character but I couldn’t say one was better than another, their work is equally excellent but each is different. So that said I can’t vote for an individual, it’s like saying which is your favourite child?

Yes, I do wonder how much of the Woodlore was from Alan, and how much form Ray. Not casting any aspersions as I have no clue.

I love the woodlore design though - they are a thing of beauty. Its another of those classic designs that is a great looking knife as well as being a great user. This is my first go at a woodlore, but in a full flat grind.

👍 lovely blades and website top job

it would be so nice to have a dedicated thread on here for stalking equipment, especially knives etc, so many knife makers you don’t get to hear of and thats a loss to
people to get the blade they would like, as well as new blades, new concepts, new steels and of course videos

cheers

Very nice indeed, like some others on here ( I hope 🤣 ) knives draw me like a moth to lamp, so many steels, patterns, grinds and scales, to choose just one is virtually impossible 😋
