I'm guessing the Op is looking for something far more secure than a rifle case with a steel padlocked cable through the trigger guard. As in something that will allow him to park up at a motorway service station and take a bladder emptying break without fearing a back window smash & grab scenario.

But I could be wrong.

When I travel long distances and over to Europe in the days before brexit, I had a steel gun box bolted on the back of the can, bolted to the strap eyes, still use it today

My FEO didn't like this concept at all and thought a firearm should never be left in an unattended vehicle. I pointed out that the DSC1 teaches that if you have to leave a vehicle unattended then you should take reasonable steps such as taking bolt (and I think ammo and magazine) with you and ideally also securing the rifle to the vehicle such as a cable through the action, also if possible try to keep the vehicle in view.

My FEO/FLD also seem to take the line that if they 'advise' something (even if this goes beyond the law or standard practice) and you don't do it, they will view it as non-compliance and threaten to revoke.

It doesn’t matter if one of your permissions is five hours away, as long as you’re legal and you’ve got it all in writing what more can you do?

Personally, I would just tell him to go and do one and tell him it’s none of their business. You’ve got the weitten permission, you’ve met the land criteria, You don’t need to tell them anything other that you’re going Deer stalking.

Interestingly, in c40-years of holding a FAC I cannot recall being asked about my arrangements for firearms transportation. Unless we include the sarcastic comment from one CC back in 1985 who wished to know, upon submitting a Variation for a total of 6 rifles, if I "used a golfing trolley when shooting?"

I have a motorcycle cable lock looped through the seat mounts, long hoop padlock to go through the action. Won’t stop someone tooled up or determined but would stop an opportunist.

The Police. who may not be firearms educated might have a very broad opinion of what constitutes reasonable.
Just ask anyone who has been searched under PACE or Terrorist accusations just for looking "Suspicious"
They may be in the wrong but it's still hassle.
