TRAVELLING ABROAD - the document saga -

I’ll be travelling to Finland to a moose hunt at the end of October. I have applied for a finish personal import license for my gun (Merkel .30-06 O/U double rifle). Glad that I won’t apply for an export license from the UK!
Apparently, the finish hunting authorities also want to see proof that I’m allowed to hunt moose (or equivalent) in the UK too. Apparently a letter from a hunting organisation or the police will do the trick. Has anyone every applied for anything like this before? Would the FO, BASC or BDS write such a letter?
DSC1 or 2 is acceptable, what they want is some documentary proof that you are a qualified hunter, they were happy with my Deer hunting licence and a copy of my firearms cert.
Best of luck on the trip, hope this is helpful.

This is exactly what they want a hunting qualification same in most European country’s, I have just validated my french hunting permit the same applied there, regards Wayne

So the French don’t require any visitor type firearms licence / permit?

Do you have a link to the requirements? Might make going via France to Germany and lot easier than via the Netherlands which requires a visitors firearms permit, as does Germany.
I applied for my euro ticket only to be told you will only need insurance and a cover and or confirmation letter, that’s kent police

What do you mean by Euro ticket?
i renewed my fac with that i had the additional one sheet paperwork to travel in europe with firearms noting the firearms that could be used 6.5 and 308
i applied for renewal just recently requesting the same and kent police advised i wouldn’t need one,
i’m guessing the insurance and confirmation has superseded that now old requirement

So you mean a European Firearms Passport (EFP).
Since the U.K. left European Union (with the exception of N.I.) EFPs issued by U.K. police forces ceased to be be recognised and are therefore no longer issued.

that’s what i was told. ?????
i haven’t enquired any further to be honest, I won’t be going boar shooting this year now anyway
i’ll wait and find out nearer the time for a trip next year hopefully, the dust may have settled a bit by then

I have recently been invited to bring a group from UK to Croatia for a driven Boar hunt in November.
Has anybody been to Croatia recently that may be in a position to give me some advice as to the hoops and hurdles I may have to jump through to get it together.
I will have letters of invitation from Croatia and, presumably now we no longer have the EU Firearms Pass, have to go through the rigmarole we used to go through with the Police in Zagreb airport when we land but Is there anything extra introduced due to this Covid Virus that anybody is aware of ?

Check on the gov website if you have to quarantine and also if you need a lateral flow test in and out and what declarations you need.
Going into France I didn’t need a pcr or flow test just a declaration of health to get into France and leaving I needed a flow test to come back which I bought here and then did and then uploaded a picture and got the results in two hours this cost 28 quid and a day two test which again was 28 quid.
They also requires me to show my vaccine jab passport on the way out, all was very simple regards Wayne

FINALLY!!!! Some information that I can work with.
I have been trying to find out how I get my hunting weapons from the weapons safe, they are in, in Germany, to my house, here in Scotland. I have contacted BASC and only received the usual 'run-around'; nothing that would help me. As a result, I have held off applying for my FAC and SGC, to see how I can get the firearms here, after the applications are approved.
At long last, after some five years, I can move forward.
All are registered in Germany and secure in a firearms safe. Now I can secure my new safe, here, and, finally, submit my application and get out there again; while I can still walk.
Thank you so very, very much TonyC. I owe you no less than five pints and a good dram. Problem is, you will have to come to Brora to collect. ;-)

If they are legally held to your WBK in Germany then you can request an EFP from the local behoerde there that do the licensing which cost about 50 Euros in my case. That makes it legal to transport them in a vehicle to Calais/Hook of Holland for a ferry transport then on arrival in UK your SGC/FAC will kick in.

Unless I have forgotten how to read 'government red tape', I won't even need and EFP, according to what I read, in the insert from TonyC. To be doubly sure, I will be contacting the Moral, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) in Wiesbaden. I, still, have rights and access to them, as a US Military retiree. (Totally forgot about them before.)
I have no doubt that I will, rather sooner than later, get this whole thing sorted.

They, the German authorities seemed to, as I have heard from some of the Hoenfels personnel to have tightened up a lot on the exemptions given to rod and gun club owners in the US military.
Good luck with the saga.

I confess to still being unsure about how this actually works when crossing the tunnel to France. Like many, I have received conflicting advice.
I think I will take my chances and just go. For clarity, the rifle in question is in the UK, held here under an UK FAC. It is also officially registered in France. I actually bought it in France.
What is the worst that could happen? I assume I will either be asked to turn back or it will be confiscated... Oh well...

A very interesting thread chaps, though from my position living in NI, I am not affected - for once!
What caught my eye however was the minister’s letter in post no.1 which included:-
“Any sights must be of a non-electronic image enhancing type”.
Soooo what is one to make of that? For example and for want of a better descriptor “red dot” sights certainly appear acceptable and seem to be in common use - presumably because the only ‘electronic” aspect is the dot itself and the “image” is unaffected but I wonder are there versions with electronic zoom functionality which would thus be illegal? Or is this proviso simply there to preclude thermal and any other night vision sights and if so does this mean they are all illegal in the EU? Just curious.

First trip abroad for boar in almost two years, by car via tunnel today, declared rifles on booking in. No problem, went to passport control then to big sign which said DECLARE FIREARMS HERE so I did and was sent to security who asked for FAC and took it to office where I presume they copied it, "want to see rifles and ammo" no on your way sir.
Then thru french passport control and onto train. Drove off the other end and was on the motorway before I realized it without seeing anywhere to declare rifles to customs - there isn't anywhere!!!

Why were we worried?

Hmmm. Perhaps they are all far too busy assisting those foreign johnnies to inflate their RIBS?
